Norton Anti-Virus help!?

I have Norton Anti-Virus 2007 and it will expire in 27 days. Well it tells me on the computer that i need to "fix it now" and it tells me that i have to renew my subscription. Will this cost me? If so how much? b/c I still have those 27 days and my computer is acting like it does not have an inti-virus or something.

It's trying to bug you into renewing your subscription as soon as possible. The subscription renewal usually costs about as much as buying a new copy of the software. If you want something inexpensive the free version of AntiVir at http://www.free-av.com works great.

I'd say to either download one of the top rated free anti-virus programs or if you like Norton just pay the $20 a year fee for the updates. IF you have an older version of NORTON, updates are free for LIFE for those people who don't mind uninstalling and re-installing. It doesn't matter what year your anti virus is. As long as the updates are done, my 1998 version will do everything that my uncles 2007 version does EXCEPT that my old version allows me to rip it out and re-install it as if I had just purchased it today. 2004 thru 2008 versions all require you to fill out all the form fields and then saves them permanently under that product code/serial number.

HERE'S THE TRICK... This only works with the older versions... If your Norton is 2004 or newer, this trick MAY NOT work, but if you're gonna have to pay for the updates anyway, there's nothing to lose by trying it. Using a P2P sharing tool like ARES Galaxy, do a "SOFTWARE" search for "2002 Norton", and download a copy. NEXT: Go to the Symantec site and download their software removal tool. One is called SYMCLEAN.exe, and I can't remember the other's name, but it's on the same page at Symantec. Uninstall Norton completely first, and then run both of those Symantec tools. Once that every trace of the old Norton is gone, Install Norton 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, or 2003, BEING CAREFUL to NOT allow it to "save your information for faster registration in the future." The inclusion of that CHOICE over "save your info" or not, was their first attempt at preventing this re-install trick from working. In 2004 they made it permanent storing of it mandatory.
Good Luck, and if it works for you, then enjoy.
