Mail sent to valid sbcglobal.net addresses is bouncing back with "User doesn't have a sbcglobal.net account"

Ever since sometime yesterday (Jan. 24), mail sent to my sbcglobal.net account has been bouncing back to the sender with a message like this:

(reason: 554 delivery error: dd This user doesn't have a
sbcglobal.net account (myaddressxxx@sbcglobal.net) [-5]
- mta154.sbc.mail.mud.yahoo.com)

AT&T support says it's a Yahoo problem, not theirs:

"I regret to inform you that since you have merged your AT&T and Yahoo! IDs, you will not be able, temporarily,to receive emails during Yahoo!'s maintenance of the email servers."

Does anyone have any better info about what's going on and when we can expect it to be fixed? This is a bad, bad situation -- senders being told that we don't exist anymore.

Thanks.

Temporary Suspended Account or Offline Mail Servers do that to trigger ``User does not exist``.

I've had an sbcglobal account for quite awhile and I've never had this happen. Are you able to send messages form this account? And, is it happening to everyone who sends you mail, or just certain people. Maybe try e-mailing yourself and see if it happens. Or, are you able to send to other sbcglobal accounts? I'm not being very helpful, but that's all i can think of to try. Sorry.

HAD IDENTICAL PROBLEM WHICH STARTED AT THE SAME TIME. Unbelievable! Just got off the phone with "2nd-tier" Yahoo email support. They told me that the SENDER has to change their SMTP settings to "require authentication." NEVER had this problem before Jan. 24th. Tech support said that, of course, only senders using an email client like Outlook/OE/ Eudora would have the issue. I will ask sender to try this; but what about everyone else who could not get through and has NOT let me know...?

Tech support said nothing to me about "maintenance of the email servers."
