I recommend a free scan of the computer at Crucial. Not only will it tell you how much and what type of memory (RAM) the computer has installed, it will tell you how much more and of what type can be add per slot.

You are a bit confused! RAM is not measured in MHz! You seem to be describing the processor speed!

as long as there are enough slots but it will only run as fast as the slowest stick of ram

It should work, but on some PCs can fit in matching pairs to make it run faster. Take a scan at crucial.com and it will tell you all you need to know.

The speed of RAM you will need depends mainly on the motherboard. You generally should choose the highest speed of RAM that the motherboard supports. Make sure that you check the motherboard documentation to find this out. Just because a stick of RAM fits in a motherboard doesn't mean it will work. Sometimes, inserting the wrong RAM and powering up the mobo can damage the board, the RAM, or both.

The one thing you generally should avoid, however, is mixing RAM speeds in the same computer. In theory, if you mix RAM speeds, all of the modules should clock to the lowest speed; but in practice, mixing speeds (and sometimes even brands) in the same PC can cause system instability

Haha there is no problem there!
The RAM on the laptop is 5300, right? even though you say its 333MHz, because its DDR2 its frequency runs at 667MHz, So the other one you mentioned is the same.
    It goes like this
    DDR266MHz or PC2100
    DDR333MHz or PC2700
    DDR400MHz or PC3200

    DDR2 266MHz (or 533MHz) - PC2 4200
    DDR2 333MHz(or 667Mhz) - PC2 5300
    DDR2 400MHz (or 800MHz) - PC2 6400

Basically ddr2 uses twice the clock of the original ddr ram.

But yeah, in short it should work fine as long as you get laptop memory!
You can always read the manual of the laptop (on manufacturers website if you dont have it) and see exactly which type it can take
