How do u tell if the baby has "dropped"?

My doctor says it will feel like you have a bowling ball between your legs, I feel a little pressure down there but I dont think she has dropped because of the position she is in. sideways with head down(back facing my right side, legs and face facing my left side). I am almost 35 weeks, how do u tell when they have dropped, when do they usually drop and how long after you drop do u usually go into labor? If someone could answer these that would be great!

You will know your baby has dropped when, you suddenly feel more pressure on your pelvic area, on your cervix. You may feel the need to go to the bathroom alot, more than you have lately. Also in the months up to this point baby has been agains tyour lungs and ribs so breathing is not easy. When your baby drops you may feel like you don't lose your breath as often or at least be able to breath better than before.
Also you might have more pressure in your upper legs, baby will be now against the veins and slow blood flow around these areas, so cramping or just aching legs may accure. it does kinda feel like you have a bowling ball between your legs you feel like as you walk you may drop the baby right out! It's very odd but you won't be dropping anything!
Some woman feel it 4-5 weeks before birth, others dont' feel it till hours before and some don't even drop till birth is under way. It really is different for each woman.
Good luck!

the baby drops closer to when you are really ready to deliver, then it's real pressure, it will be something you will definatly feel. but it may be in the hospital.

My babies didn't come down until they broke my water, then the baby "dropped" and it was on . I had dialated to 6 centimeters and my baby never dropped until they broke my water. The pressure and intense contractions are lots of fun.

I carried very high during my first pregnancy. I dropped around 35-36 weeks (I delivered at 37 1/2 weeks). Since I carried high, I had difficulty breathing. I realized I dropped when all of a sudden I could breathe again. I never felt like I had a bowling ball b/w my legs, but maybe people who start off low feel this way.

Well it will feel different with all women, but when I finely felt my daughter drop I was 36 weeks and it felt like( u know when you are on a roll coaster and your stomach drops on the ride when it goes down??) that's how mine's felt when she got herself in position. You usually don't going into labor when your baby does that, it just telling your body that to get ready. hope this helps, good luck!!!

You will know when the baby has dropped. It will feel like a lot of pressure has been relieved off your stomach no more heartburn!), and it will usually be visible. I know that with my daughter, I dropped at 36 weeks, and then had her 4 days later. But she just wanted to come early :) My best friend just dropped, and she is 39 weeks, and is due next Weds. Good luck!

At 35 weeks you should be going to your OB every week now so they will be able to tell you when your baby has dropped.

My baby started dropping around 35 weeks. The only way I could tell is noticing him passing a mole or freckle on my stomach. I could physically see where the hardness was, and it got lower gradually. You start to feel increased pressure in your pelvic region, and soon (if you're not already), you'll be waddling kind of like a penguin. First babies can drop a few weeks before you actually go into labor. Second babies tend to drop just hours before.
