What is a cool/unique Bass guitar to buy under $800?

I loved the anime show FLCL and their use of a blue Rickenbacker bass on there, and i'd buy one if they weren't $2000! I just play casually by myself, so i'd say i'd only want to spend $800 at most for a bass, and right now all i've got is a Fender Jazz Bass that i've had since i was in high school and realized how fun it was to just play rock songs by ear (usually a basstardization of the lead guitar parts, especially for Metallica songs) and proceeded to spend the next few years playing String Bass in orcheastra, although it was 90% messing around memorizing how to play my adaptations of songs like Fuel, Motorbreath, etc.

So since i'm not actually playing in a band ever, or too concerned for sound quality, i was thinking it would be nice to buy a Bass that looks cool, or unique, or even if i found a cheap bass and had an even cheaper AK47 laying around, to weld the two together like i've seen pics of (welding AK inert).

Recommendations for unique, cool looking bass under $800?

If someone is selling a Bass for $800 the probably paid around $1500 or so. I wouldn't go for cool looks. Go for a good quality bass,good pickups.and a good neck (not warped). Music stores carry a lot of basses on consignment, also check want ads, pawn shops and guitar shows.

Yeah, i can see where a well-cared-for used bass could be sold within my budget, when originally way too expensive. Now to find a moderately used blue rickenbacker bass!

Try going to a pawn shop; my friend goes there all the time and gets good stuff for cheep prices. I seen a bass that was rockin for $450
