Wedding Dress for under $500?

Question

Does anyone know any good places to look for dresses in this price range (Please don't say David's Bridal!!! Besides there!)

Also, do independent, private bridal boutiques sale dresses in this price range?

As far as I know, David's Bridal is the only major chain for wedding dresses.

Start by looking in your area's yellow pages. Then, just go out shopping to each place and see what you can find!

This is what I did, and I found places with dresses that were very nicely priced and others that were rediculous!

And yes, I found lots of places with tons of selections under $500!

So, like I said, start in the yellow pages!

You might want to try getting a bridal magazine and looking at each designer on the internet and than looking for stores near you...that's what helped me so much whenever i was looking for my dress.

Have someone make it for you (mom, grandma, aunt, lady from your church...)

Borrow someone else's dress (mom, grandma, aunt, lady from your church...)

actually call around the couture bridal shops at least once a year they sell the sample gowns up to 75% off. just call around all the shops and see when they do this. I've asked around and found several places that have dresses from 200-500$ then you just pay for alterations.

Try Ebay. Also check your local classified ads. Honestly, I've seen wedding dresses advertised that say things like "Never worn, originally $1500, make me an offer."

Even though there are 22 other answers I would suggest searching online for wholesale dresses. Most designers have outlets that sell to the public but of course they don't advertise that fact.

It is absolutely possible to find a beautiful wedding dress for under $500 (without having to buy from David's Bridal)! There is Alfred Angelo and Mary's Bridal just to name a few. Also, you can find great deals at the private boutiques as well.
Oh, and there is this eBay shop called Cinderella's Bridal Shop (http://stores.ebay.com/Cinderellas-Brida… I purchased a gown from them for only $300 and it was perfect! It resembled a Maggie Sottero dress that I wanted but couldn't afford. No one knew it wasn't a Maggie, but me :)

Hi. Yes, you can find a dress under $500...sometimes even under $200! You just need to look around.

Also, go to your local bridal store. They always have gowns that are on sale and discounted.

i got mine for 350 at thomas bridal its a local shop in my town and the gown was so much prettier than anything i seen at davids bridal it was the perfect dress it had all the specifications i wanted and i didnt even have to get it altered! it was great

Bridal boutiques usually have dresses on sale for under that price. I would say don't go to the uppety Bridal boutiques because you may have a more difficult time finding something in your price range.

You have to look but they do. My friend found one on a clearance rack at a bridal shop. It needed to be cleaned, and a row of gemstones needed to be fixed but it was only $99. She fell in love with it and had it cleaned, fixed up and altered for not much more. Don't be so hard on Davids Bridal either. If you go there in person they have many more dresses than what is on their website. Some of which are older styles that you can buy off the rack.

Laugh if you want to, but if you have a thrift shop nearby, you might want to try there.

I have seen wedding gowns in a local one for $25-100, of course there are some old, lame ones but some very modern, newer, beautiful ones, as well. And not all of them were worn even once. More than a few had original tags.

Of course you would have to pick through the trash to find the treasure, so to speak, but think about it...if you found a dress for, let's say, $75, and paid to have it cleaned, you would be SO far ahead of the game it wouldn't even be funny.

Another benefit is that a lot of thrift shops have fitting rooms...so you can try before you buy. I don't know if the dresses you find in the paper are like that, and if you buy on eBay and it doesn't fit, you're more or less screwed.

absolutely, i just go married june 2007, and what i did is i found the dress i liked, and went to the manufacture's website...i found that there were many choices for dresses within your budget, you just have to look for them...once you find the dress you want by the manufacturer, then you go to the bridal shop, and shop their prices...good luck

Search around at local bridal shops & look for good "off the rack" sales. Many stores will have great sales for dresses right off the rack, which means they might not fit you exactly, so you would have to have it altered to fit. However, if you can find a dress that is only 1 or 2 sizes too big it won't cost much to get it altered. If you register on websites like theknot.com you can get emails about local shops sales & going out of business sales. These emails usually come with an extra 10% off coupon as well.

I ended up finding my dress at a little bridal shop that happened to be having a great sale. I got a Demetrios dress for 70% off!! And it ended up costing less than the majority of David's Bridal dresses! I am having a family friend alter it for me.

We gave our / brides wedding dress to local church charity shop many years ago.
