Help! Fireworks just started and my dog is scared stiff...?

Okay, my next door neighbour has just started doing fireworks. I didnt know they were doing fireworks and my dog, Jasper, is scared stiff. Right now he is upstairs in a lil semi dark "tent" I made for him (basically a blanket hanging one end on a box and one end on the bed. He is lying in the centre underneath.)
Also, he is listening to some music, but he is still frightened. Please give ur top tips. I dunno wat to do!!!

My dog is scared of fireworks, guns, and thunder. There's not much you can do about it.

I read in a dog training book that you aren't supposed to coddle them when they act scared because they then think it's ok to be scared, and that you should use a peppy voice with them and they will think it's ok.

Unfortunately I read this after my dog was a puppy, and had already developed her fear. She just goes and hides in my bathroom now when she's scared.

My dog is 10 years old and does the same thing. He doesnt like thunder and lightning either.
I've read that you should just let them find their own place to hide and leave them alone. They go there for that reason...to get away from it.
Also, I buy my dog calming tablets from pet smart. But these only work when you know a storm is coming or fireworks are about to go off. They do help though.
But there is nothing really you can do. Your pet will calm down after a while. They will be just fine.

Pet the dog and talk to him in a soft reassuring voice. Hold him if he likes that sort of thing.

Fireworks are too loud for a dog's very sensitive ears. Everything you're doing is right: find a very quiet room (no lights on) away from the noise if you can, put your dog in the "tent" (or a pet porter) and reassure her. It will be over soon! :)

Your best bet is to not pet him and coddle him. Find his favorite toy, offer it to him, give him something dogs really like or something s/he personally really likes. Show him that you aren't scared and that he doesn't need to be scared also. Dogs are very much like humans, except they don't have a vocabulary so its harder to "comfort" them with affection as it is to comfort them with food, toys, happiness.

My dog is also scared of fireworks. Last time she heard them she ran into her crate that she only uses during the day when I'm not home. Its a "safe" place. Just let him go to his safe place and try to comfort him the best you can. Try distracting him with a game or toy or treat. I heard a story the other day of a dog that was so scared of thunderstorms that whenever one came the dog would climb in the bathtub and scratch until his claws bled. The owner told me that he had to give the dog a prescription medication to sedate/relax him whenever he heard on the news that a storm could be coming. Just try some different approaches to it and hopefully he'll settle down.

my little dog used to have siezures when she heard fireworks. the trick is not to smother them with to much comfort or the reactions will continue. i got a dvd and cd on storms and fireworks. i played them and gradually increased the volume, it took time but eventually she got used to it. but i always made sure the she was sitting beside me when i did it, so she could learn that it was safe. some people have gone to their vets for alternative help.

You can find out if fire works are illegal in your city, If they are. Then call the police on them.

I would not want to live next door to that kind of noise weather I had a dog or not.
