Is it possible to overcome dislike for certain foods?

When I was little I know I liked tuna fish sandwiches, but I would literally puke if I tried to eat fish now. I also have this problem with most cheeses with the exception of things like pizza, cheesecake, or cheeze-it crackers or cheese puffs. Mayo is another food I'm not fond of, but not to the same extent as fish and cheese. Is this a mental thing or what? Is there anyway I can get over this? Is this something I can control?

Your question doesn't specify your age but I can tell you from personal experience that when I was young I didn't eat: tomatoes, peas, peaches, cantaloupe, fish, strawberries, onions, and many more things.

A few years after I moved out on my own I discovered that there are very few foods (liver for one) that I won't eat. I don't love every variety of fish but I do like many of them including yellow fin tuna, cod, salmon, and more.

The bottom line is that you should keep an open mind and give things a try. If they "gross you out" you should wait a few years and try them again. I think that if a food is prepared well there would be a lot less foods most people would dislike.
