How has Yahoo! Answers impacted your life?

Yahoo! Answers US is celebrating its second year this December, and we wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on how it has impacted each of us. We'd like to share some of these stories with you, and also hear how this question-and-answer community has impacted your life.

I have found a hidden talent I never knew I had. I am able to embrace and encourage this new talent within myself whenever I begin a session in Yahoo!Answers. I have a better opinion of my tolerance for others and the opinions that we all have. I am amazed at the amount of empathy within me that I never knew was there. I am astounded by the over abundance of all the different things that I know absolutely NOTHING ABOUT!! This makes me humble and open to new ideas and concepts, giving me a better outlook on the world around me every time I log onto this site. I am confident of my writing abilities and my delivery of a thought or idea to others in a manner that is easily understood and entertaining to read. I use this new self confidence in my every day life, and have found myself engaging with my peers alot more and seeking out more conversations with strangers without my old reservations. I am a good person who can be honest when asked my opinion, when I used to be a passive aggressive, yes man, who feared conflict ,and worse, feared criticism from others. Now, I engage in healthy conflict and resolution without all the insecurity I used to have. This site offers advise, validation, and even cold hard truth, when no one else in your life can. I enjoy the safety this site ensures when you are practicing the act of being blatantly honest to perfect strangers, allowing you to let down your guard and truly explore your inner thoughts and express them, out loud, and sharing those thoughts with other people, sometimes for the very first time. I could then discover how small I am, yet how valued my small little opinion can be. This gave me insight into my stability in my relationships intimately and superfluously . Whenever I am stumped as to what to do, or how to act,or what to say...i just log onto this site and release my inhibitions and air out confusing stresses. Thank you, for all of my new discoveries about me, about the people of this world, and about the power of knowledge.

I've only been on yahoo a few months but I love it. At first I was on here far too much but it helped me through a difficult time. Now I limit myself most of the time but if I'm feeling a bit lonely or bored I log on and always find something of interest . It's like going to visit a good friend ( although she does have a few naughty children) I've even had some of my answers picked as best answer. I'll keep coming back. Well as you can see Im only Level 1 but that is immaterial to me because when I do have a dilema I come to Yahoo Answers and there is always someone level headed that leads you in the right direction! Thanks Yahoo Answers and a great big "HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008"

I get irritated at all the STUPID answers I see. My opinion. If you dont know what youre talking about dont answer just to get points.

Answers has helped me in the process of buying an engagement ring for my girlfriend as I received a lot of advice about temporary vs permanent settings and what type of cut/color/clarity/carat I should be getting. It confirmed the type of ring that I wanted to buy....thankfully, she said yes so I can attribute my engagement partly to Yahoo! Answers.

I've enjoyed Y/A for entertainment mostly. I like sharing information. Early last summer, just by answering a question, I also met a nice email pal on here who lives in Europe. I live in the U.S.

We write a few times a year. I always look forward to hearing from her. Our cultures are totally different, but our mutual faith and the common denominator of just being nice people has built what I hope will be a correspondence for years to come. That has been the best part of Y/A.

I consider my friend a wonderful additon to my life that I would not likely have met otherwise as I don't understand or "do" chat rooms.

I got a sermon out of it. I'm not a minister. Our church is so small that our minister preaches just 3 times a month. The other one or two Sundays we have members or guests give the sermon. I gave this one on last November:

I have enjoyed Yahoo Answers thus far. I'm usually in the R&S section and it gives me a chance to help others with their questions about God and the bible that I normally wouldn't have time to for. My schedule is so hectic that I find myself without time for outreach, but this is an easy way to do so during a little down time at work.

Right now, it's making me angry, because I answered a question with a statement that had a rhetorical question at the end of it, and Y/A gave me a violation for that.

It has given me a opportunity to send pictures and a number of other things with my family. I have one cousin this how we communicate..

i love it. i get to ask questions and get real answers and help other people while helping myself. everyday i wake up and look forward to my time on here to answer questions! it makes me feel so good inside. like i have made a difference in someones life by sitting here and listening to their question and answering it the way it should be answered!

I am so glad to say ANSWERS has completly given something to me ...knowledge and interesting answers. I look forward everyday to being on this wonderful sight and included it as my time for myself in a routine with a daily set schedule. Thank you and have a great New Year.

When I started on here it was very enjoying UNTIL; a person who is #1 in the gardening and landscaping section made that section non enjoyable, he reports people for no reason, he invades every body's privacy. He almost has me ready to quit answering questions. This has been going on now for months and yahoo doesn't seem to catch on.

Before I discovered Y!Answers & bought a computer. I spent my days watching TV or reading the newspaper. AS a disabled person, I have a lot of free time. YA gave me a focus & a purpose. It helped me with my writing skills. Its given me hope.

Yahoo Answers is a great resource. I found that Google and other search engines never give you the honest opinion of people and what they think. The people on Yahoo Answers are always helpful and give their true opinion. They are also grateful to recieve answers to their questions. Now, when I need to find information, Yahoo Answers is always first before any search engine.

im always on the Jokes and Riddles section of Y answers it gives me something to do and i have a lot of laughs

i often use this. it is so convinent and i am glad that i can help people with questions. as well as answering the i also get good advice, hint, and answers. i often report people who abuse the system to make fun of others and keep it hater free.

At first I could not believe a local Silicone Valley Business could be so openly Un American and disregard the Law of the land.

But after 2 years and 50 User ID's I have come to the conclusion that Yahoo is simply a pornography business selling maximum adds per click.

I'm sure like most Corporations you hire the lowest possible quality of employees at the lowest possible rate. This is no different than GM (also in the porno business) GE etc etc.

Yahoo answers has taught me that people's opinions mostly stink. That if I haven't thought of a solution, probably no one else is going to come up with anything better. That women would much rather share birth horror stories than actual research based fact, and what people KNOW and what they THINK they know are two entirely different things.
