Hep D is mutated from Hep B. I'm surprised that your doctor never discussed this or treatments with you. If he/she is unaware of treatments go to a liver specialist. Interferon-alfa has a high success rate; in the past few years a treatment , but takes anywhere from 6 months to a year for it to work depending on the person and how successful it is. During the treatment; however, you may become very sick and lathargic, but don't stop the treatment. Even thous who have not been cured testify that they have had their life restored and feel 100% better then before the treatment. No cheating on any liver treatment.
Contact the Liver Foundation, in the meantime as I'm sure your partner has told you, try and avoid dairy products, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, smoking, anything that the liver has trouble processing. Find out about MilkThistle and it's benifits.
Good luck.

Stephanie is correct. You cannot get Hepatitis D without having Hepatitis B, so therefore you must be coinfected. Hep B and D are different from Hep C. It is not a variation or mutation of it. Getting a Hep B shot (vaccine) now will not help. See a gastroenterologist with a good percentage of Hep B patients. Having a good doctor that is up to date on the latest treatment protocols is of the utmost importance. Best wishes.

Hepatitis D can be treated in the same way as Hep B, or with interferon. Some websites also say liver transplantation, but that is only if the liver damage progresses to cirrhosis & decompensation (end stage liver disease). With a co-infection, it is more likely that liver damage will progress faster than someone with just Hep B.

hepatitis d can only happen if one has hbv. it does not co-exsist with hepatitis a or c and does not exsist by itself.

it is usually more severe than other forms of hepatitis, is transmitted sexually or by exposure to infected blood or blood products.hepatitis B, C and D are spread by contact with blood or other body fluids from an infected person; blood-borne spread.

-most patients can be cared for at home.
-ample bed-rest together with a light diet and non-alcoholic fluids during the early part of the illness are recommended.
-occasionally admission to hospital is advised because of persistent vomiting or development of suspected liver failure.

there is no specific anti-viral treatment for acute viral hepatitis.

Go, immediately, and get a Hep B shot. hep D cannot exist without Hep B. You got this, from having sex with your partner without proper safety guards. If you just put Hepatitis D on your browser, you will see how you got it, what it means to you, and how you CAN combat it, right now. Hurry to the Health Dept and get the Hep B injection. Seriously.
