Islam is a man-made religion, so what else do you expect from it?

Women in Islam are on the losing end. I have read Waris Dirie's & Mukhtar Mai's stories, & also heard Wafa Sultan's angry outburst on video. However, in some moderate Islamic countries, some Muslim women are trying to fight for their rights.

its a misconception. There have bn more female presidents and prime ministers in the Muslim world thn the west ( idont even recall any western country having a female primemister)

Surah [4:15]. women can go out and get jobs as well
and Surah [4:32] says that they can earn a living if they desire to and they can also take part in the government [9:71; 22:41].

Now these few verses below tells women to gaurd their beauty and if someone harrases them can face serious punishments

Depending upon the severity of the crime,

-Those who annoy or molest women, can be forced to leave the neighbourhood area or separated, or isolated from the society or expelled or banished

-Any provisions or benefits e.g. Social benefits from the government can be withdrawn from them.

-They can be arrested/seized

-They can be given death sentence

See the following verses of the Quran:

O prophet, speak unto thy wives, and thy daughters, and the women of the believers, that they cast their outer garments over them [when they go out]; this [will be] more proper, that they may be known [to be women of esteem and honour], and may not be affronted [by unseemly words or actions]. God is Protector [and] Beneficent. [33:59]

If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is an infirmity, and they who raise disturbances in Medina, do not desist; we will surely set you over them, [to chastise them]: Henceforth they shall not dwell near thee therein, except for a little [time]. [33:60]

And being barred from social benefits, wherever they shall be found, they shall be seized and slain. [33:61]

I dont see any hatred in here. I see laws that are making men bend over backwards..anything wrong with it?


Now if u wanna know about divorce
It is not true that only men can decide who to divorce and who not to divorce.
From a reading of the Quran we learn that God does not favour divorces and in fact encourages the continuation of marriage.

[4:35] If a couple fears separation, you shall appoint an arbitrator from his family and an arbitrator from her family; if they decide to reconcile, GOD will help them get together. GOD is Omniscient, Cognizant.

Wait 4 months cooling off before divorce

[2:226-227] Those who intend to divorce their wives shall wait four months (cooling off); if they change their minds and reconcile, then GOD is Forgiver, Merciful. If they go through with the divorce, then GOD is Hearer, Knower.

If the estranged couple chooses separation they must go through with it equitably. There must be two equitable witnesses witness the divorce before GOD

[65:2] Once the interim is fulfilled, you may reconcile with them equitably, or go through with the separation equitably. You shall have two equitable witnesses witness the divorce before GOD. This is to enlighten those who believe in GOD and the Last Day. Anyone who reverences GOD, He will create an exit for him.

DIVORCED WOMEN HAVE TO BE PROVIDED FOR

[65:7] The rich husband shall provide support in accordance with his means, and the poor shall provide according to the means that GOD bestowed upon him. GOD does not impose on any soul more than He has given it. GOD will provide ease after difficulty.

Alimony For Widows and Divorcees

[2:240] Those who die and leave wives, a will shall provide their wives with support for a year, provided they stay within the same household. If they leave, you commit no sin by letting them do whatever they wish, so long as righteousness is maintained. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

[2:241] The divorcees also shall be provided for, equitably. This is a duty upon the righteous.

Compensation when marriage is not consummated

Breaking the Engagement

[2:236] You commit no error by divorcing the women before touching them, or before setting the dowry for them. In this case, you shall compensate them - the rich as he can afford and the poor as he can afford - an equitable compensation. This is a duty upon the righteous.

[2:237] If you divorce them before touching them, but after you had set the dowry for them, the compensation shall be half the dowry, unless they voluntarily forfeit their rights, or the party responsible for causing the divorce chooses to forfeit the dowry. To forfeit is closer to righteousness. You shall maintain the amicable relations among you. GOD is Seer of everything you do.

Divorced women entitled to stay in the same house she stayed before divorce

Do Not Throw the Divorcees Out Onto the Streets

[2:231] If you divorce the women, once they fulfill their interim (three menstruations), you shall allow them to live in the same home amicably, or let them leave amicably. Do not force them to stay against their will, as a revenge. Anyone who does this wrongs his own soul. Do not take GOD's revelations in vain. Remember GOD's blessings upon you, and that He sent down to you the scripture and wisdom to enlighten you. You shall observe GOD, and know that GOD is aware of all things.

[65:6] You shall allow them to live in the same home in which they lived with you, and do not make life so miserable for them that they leave on their own. If they are pregnant, you shall spend on them until they give birth. If they nurse the infant, you shall pay them for this service. You shall maintain the amicable relations among you. If you disagree, you may hire another woman to nurse the child.

One more thing. Men and women BOTH ARE PROMISED COMPANIONS IS HEAVEN. AND IT IS FALSE THAT ONLY MEN ARE OFFERED WOMEN.
Also, the believers who make it into Paradise, male and female, are promised beautiful companions, known as “Houris” in Arabic. The Quran describes them in some detail as such:

“Serving [the believers] will be immortal youths with jeweled and crystal cups filled with the purest wine which will neither give them headache nor hangover, with fruits and meats of their desire. They will be fair ones with lovely intense eyes like guarded pearls; A reward for the good deeds of their past life.” (56:17-24)
“We have created mates for them and made them virgins, matched in age, for the companions of the right hand.” (56:35-38)

“They will be chaste, restraining their eyes in modesty, never touched by man or Jinn."(55:56)

“Serving them will be immortal servants. When you see them, they will look like scattered pearls.” (76:19)

Well it's not fair to label all Muslims that way. Not ALL Muslims think women are men's property. But Muslim men who do are certainly NOT the only men in this world with that opinion; Men who think they are better than women can be found in every religion, not just the Islaamic one. Also, the actually Islaamic religion does not teach that women belong to men; it is the culture that has influenced people to think this way.

Oh and also, Mormons don't believe in having more than one wife. The FLDS church (the fundamentalist latter day saints) believe in polygamy, but the LDS (Mormon) church does not practice polygamy and sees it as a sin to have more than one wife.

First of all because they're *** stupid but as I have studied about Islam and are familiar with muslims in fact they don't own a woman and women are not their properties it is not in any of their relijous lessons or law. It depends on the culture of the society they live in and as most of them live in the third world they still are engaged with some *** traditions and act like stone age people. Actually when Mohammd, moslem's prophit created Islam in Saudi Arabia, people of the different tribes were fighting and so many men were killed so he made a new rule that a man can marry more than one woman so by this trick he wanted to make shelter for women and children and I must mention that most of the women were happy for this at that time (about 1500 years ago) unfortunately since people are not used to think about anything and they're like sheeps they are following the same regulatins in the year 2007. Who cares? this is what they are doing to themselves perhaps they deserve it, I belive that what you will you can get so it's better they do something for themselves IF THEY WANT TO I'm not sure. Those stupid women shouldn't accept to marry a man who is already married they are bitches don't worry about them.

It depends on the man and that is in any religion. Islam does not teach that woman are property. Islam gave women back their rights when all around the world women were looked at as property and could not get a divorce or own property. There are sexist men in any religion. Muslims undertsand the religion by the condition of their hearts and if there is prejudice and sexism in their hearts, they will most likely practice it by that condition. As human beings we see everything by the condition of our hearts. Some become better and some stay the same it depends on the person. Islam is about submission and also some Muslims have more knowledge and are more devout than others.
There are good Muslim men who do not treat their mothers, wives or daughters as property. I know a lot of them and I have known some that were not. It is a "human" condition and not a "Islamic" condition.
The press does not help with the stereotypes either. Opinions based on conjecture does not allow us to grow as people.

This goes back to the eigth century when the Koran was actually written by the decendants of Muhammed and the people in power at the time. Before and during the time of Muhammed Arab women had many rights in the societies in and around the Arab peninsula. But as the Koran underwent the way of the scribe the rules governing women seemd to change. In the end you have what we see today that men have the right to do whatever they want. Children have some rights. Slave rights are specified. Women have fewer rights than slaves.

A similar thing happened after the council of Nicea where there the promenant Catholics of the 5th century got together and decided what the Christian bible sould look like going forward. Although it was not the intent of the council, women came out of this conference with few if any rights in the European Christian world.

My thought on this is that just as much of the Koran seems to be copied from the Bible, the rights of women were dissolved in a similar manner.
