What is the definition of "spooning"?

A love interest told me that he would like to "spoon" with me sometime. Is there sex involed with "spooning"? Could someone explain in detail what it means?

In the 1920's, "spooning" was a euphmism for kissing.

However, more commonly, this refers to two people lying down next to each other, on their sides. Both people are facing the same direction (i.e. both are on their left side, or both are on their right side). Typically, their bodies are arched slightly, and they kind of fit together like two spoons, hence the term "spooning". The taller person would typically be in the "back" (i.e. usually the man). Often he would put his arm around her waist, etc.

Now I suppose two people could "spoon", say on a couch, and it simply be cuddling (i.e. loving and non-sexual). However, often a couple will have sex and afterwards will "spoon", basking in the afterglow and cuddling, etc.

So... He could mean kissing (not likely), he probably means cuddling, but he may well have in mind post-sex cuddling.

Sex is not involved.... well, maybe before or after.

Spooning is when two people lay down together, one person's back to the other person's front, both facing the same way. Bodies are close and legs are close also.

Ha ha. Most guys joke around about spooning because it's just a funny term--but many couples do it, and you can do it clothed or naked.

It's just a woman lying on her side in a C shape, and the guy in a C shape on his side right behind her. Like stacked spoons. And obviously if the couple were naked it would be a comfy "sexual position" but otherwise it can just be a cozy way to cuddle.

It's something intimate and special, usually. Not terribly rauncy on any level.

Yes it is position in sex but it is also a way you could lay next to someone. Basically he is behind you laying on his side while you are in front from on your side from that position he would enter you from behind and well your now having intercourse he could also have meant he would love to cuddle with you.

Spooning usually happens after sex or by itself but it is basically two people laying on their side, one in front of the other (facing the same direction) and the person in the back has their arm over the waist of the person in front and both of their knees are bent so basically thier bodies are in the same position and snuggled together like two spoons.

Spooning is a way a couple lie together... one person hugs the other from behind so their back is pressed agaonst the others chest...& the legs are bent up giving the image of a spoon...I 'm pretty sure people spoon generally after sex... but not necessarily...

Well spooning can be a sexual position, but it is not always. Usually it is more of a cuddling thing (but lots of times happens after sex when you are sleeping). It can happen casually cuddling too, like on the couch watching a movie. Both of you are laying on your sides and facing in the same direction. Your back would be on his front, and his arm would probably be around you. Think of the way spoons lay together in a drawer. So if you wanted to have sex in the spooning position (which sometimes if pretty difficult) it would be penetration from behind (still vaginal, though you could do it anal).

But yes. I assume if you have never had sex with this guy, you would do it in a more conventional position the first time. So he is probably just talking about cuddling spooning.

no no sex is involved...though it can lead to that...it just means that ..usually the guy...curls up behind the girl lying down..and their bodies are like two spoons..if you can imagine the two heads as the top of the spoons and the legs are the spoon handles..mmmm feels very comforting...I'll warn you though...usually you end up feeling an er ehm 'stick' behind you....

You lay together front to back. Look in your silverware drawer and see how 2 spoons fit nicely into each other, that should give you a clue.
