Denotation - a real Barbie Doll.
Connotation - the need for real people to adapt, align augment themselves to the same frame as that of the denoted Barbie Doll.
It needs to be read literally (denotation) and figuratively (connotation.) Hence - apply the lines to a real doll and a real woman/teenager and you'd get some gist of the message.
