How can I tell if a vehicle is ethanol capable E-85?

Question

How can I tell if a Ford Ranger is able to use Ethanol? (don't say "look at the manual/gas cap" - since I am am not physically looking at a Ranger.) I thought I remember hearing somewhere that it is encoded in the VIN.
Also, how would I find out the same info. for a Plymouth Acclaim?

Only the 3.0L V6s were, and then only certain years.

If it says "FFV" on the side of the car then you can do it. Since only fleets by FFV cars and in piddly numbers at that the answer to our question is no, you can not run E85. I'm not sure why anyone would want to anyway.
