How many hours do most migrant workers from Mexico work?

I've heard that they work all day, but really for how many hours usually? And from what time do they start til what time do they end their day?

Additional Details

I agree, I don't even think some of them get minimum wage. Anyway, believe it or not, our town doesn't have that many migrant Mexican workers, it's mostly a white, redneck town.

depends on the job my b/f used to go to work at 7 and get home at 9pm then in another job he only worked 7-3.but usually in a construction job he works 9-10 hours as you have to figure in travel time.

They are the present day slaves. They have to work to survive in US till a change of heart hopefully occurs. It is very good to find you have one such.

Contrary to popular belief they work the same hours American citizens work. Most illegal aliens DO NOT come here to work in the fields. They take jobs in restaurants, factories and construction.

Here everybody is subject to the same rules, only difference illegals are satisfied with lower wages. Management loves this and is quick to point out to those who aren't "hey if Jorge is willing to work for 8 dollars an hour why do I have to pay George 14 dollars an hour?"

Only difference I've seen is a lot of places that hire illegals they play fast and loose with overtime pay. Generally instead of paying out time and a half for working over 8 hours in a shift they clock out after 8 hours clock back in on the "under the table" time card and get paid straight time in cash.

In California, they make over $10 an Hour. I would guess 10 to 12 hours, but it's a guess. The wages is based on the LA times though. As to not getting minimum wage, farmers have to pay more than $10 an hour, because they can't attract workers if they don't. THe problem is farmers cheat when they pay out. They would make up fake taxes and some time stiff them with some pretext. They take that risk, because they know that illegal immigrants are less likely to complain to the labor board or the police.

It doesn't matter, because they take the jobs that citizens need. Any hours and any pay have to be better than not being able to find work at all. In my city it varies, but most of them work in the factories anywhere from 36-60 hours a week (8-12 hours a day, 3-5 days a week), making anywhere from $8-14 an hour. Poor babies. It must be nice. The owners are currently getting rid of their older higher paid citizen workers (many of them supervisors) to replace them with more illegals. This isn't work that the citizens here don't want, it's work that they can seldom get, and the pay used to be higher.

They also get plenty of benefits, like food stamps, WIC, down payments for HUD homes, special business loans, free medical care, etc. I've seen it with my own eyes and it's hard to miss the articles in the newspaper (also posters in Spanish at doctor's offices and schools, etc.) that tell them where to go to get more. Does it sound like they are suffering to you?

The average household income for illegal immigrants is $45,748 nationally. In Maryland, it's $58,061; in Virginia, $61,112. The findings may reflect the greater overall wealth of the two states: The average household income for native residents is $83,964 in Maryland and $79,524 in Virginia, compared with $66,952 nationwide.

I could not find any info on how long that they worked. As you can see the average income is well over minimum wage. Hope that this helps.

The ones I see never leave home except to walk/drive their kids to school. A member of my family just returned from Mexico as a volunteer teacher. All volunteers in that group had to PAY for the "privilege" of making a difference. None were paid a single centavo. All were recent college grads. Many pre-paid the living expenses with student loan money.

The classes never materialized because NO ONE SHOWED UP TO STUDY. There were plenty of people drinking outside, though. It seems the norm for locals to offer a shot of tequila at noon.

Sorry to disrespect the mega-media outlets, here in the U.S. but, there were NO walking skeletons. Everyone was perfectly healthy albeit a little plump.

They have exactly what they've worked for. Reaped what they sewed. But, if getting people to cry for them turns into freebies, they'll play it to the hilt.

In Phoenix most of them make at around $10 to $15 an hour or more doing either construction or landscaping and they work from about 8 to 4 or so. Maids make at least $8 an hour and many can make $15 an hour, and for many since they are paid under the table they take the whole thing home.
