Reading that gives me hope, which is joy in itself.
Learning to be true to my "true" self that doesnt focus on fear,doubts and worries encourages me to open my mind.

I absolutely agree. We are the creators of our own destinies and the past only defines us if we choose to live in it. I am not the person I was yesterday or even when I started writing this sentence. It is up to us to define who we are, we choose to be the way we are. Many times we define ourselves based on some past event. When we die to the past we can begin to understand who we are in this moment, and only then is growth possible.

Create your ideal self in your mind, knowing that you have the potential to become that. Devote yourself to that idea. Live that idea every day and express it in your actions and words. Thus begins your spiritual path.

yes. It does give hope. Although we share characteristics with our families, we can break free of those that hinder us in our growth, and keep the good. That is what growth is about. Yet, to have roots is a good thing. I am glad that you found solace in that saying. Yay for reading and writing!!!!
