LLC or S corporation, and how to start one?

I'd like to start a very small business while I keep my current job. I've heard that an LLC is the best way to go because an S corporation involves more paperwork. I've also looked over several websites that offer advice on starting an LLC, but it seems like they're all trying to get me to pay a few hundred dollars for their services. Can I do the paperwork myself to start an LLC, and if so, where do I go to get it (my LLC would be in California). Thanks, and I'd appreciate any other advice people can offer on getting a small business off the ground.

For sure an llc is the easiest and smartest way to go,it is way less paper work and cheaper when you have to file taxes. To start your on your own is simple ,go to the local court house where they file marriages and deaths they usually keep the business section in the same building.First register your dba certifying your name then fill out a llc form to register you with the state , but you may also have to file a few more things with the tax office depending on the type of business you are starting.
