Should I mail or hand out invitations for my wedding? (See details)?

Here's the situation: my co-workers were on my "plan b" list. We got our regular RSVP's back and it turns out we can invite my co-workers. It's a couple weeks away from the wedding, and I don't have any of their addresses. By the time I get them, mail them, and get them back it will practically be time for the wedding. I was just wondering if instead I could hand out all the invitations at our daily meeting at work. What do you think? Is handing out okay in this situation or should I mail them?


BTW....only two of them are listed in the phone book so it's going to be time-consuming to visit each person at their desk and write down their address....I'm not trying to sound like it's a bother, it just sounds so much more practical to just hand them out.

Mailing them would be ideal but because of the late date, handing them out would be okay. But, rather than passing them out during the daily meeting, it would be better to approach them individually and give them their invitation. Doing it during a mass meeting can make it seem a bit impersonal and it also gives the impression that they were an after thought. If you do it one on one it at least gives them the illusion that you really wanted them there and took the time to personally invite them. It is just a nice touch. It may not be ideal by the Emily Post style of etiquette, but I think they'd appreciate getting the information directly, so they can consider their plans and get back to you as fast as possible. Sometimes efficiency can trump formalities.

traditionally they are meant to be mailed but due to lack of time and addresses i think handing them out if just as nice.

Proper etiquette says to mail them. It is more formal and special. Ask your bridesmaid to get the addresses, that is what she is there for.

Theres nothing wrong with handing them out. You only have a short time and it would take more time just to get their address from them than giving it to them. I highly doubt anyone will even think twice about it

Hi. Well, you can hand them out. But if it's only a couple weeks away, obviously they will know that they were on the "B" list! And, since that will be getting into the Christmas party season, don't expect that many will be able to attend.

I don't see anything wrong with handing them out since you see them almost every day! My girls that I see very often told me to just hand them out to them, so that we save time and money on postage.

Sounds a bit tacky to me. It's like saying " Oh by the way, you weren't on my original list of people to invite but if you have nothing else to do on short notice, would you like to come to my wedding ?" Look you have already blown it. When you plan a wedding, especially one near Christmas, you can plan on about 10% of theose invited to not be able to come. Those on the B list should have been invited initially. If you planned on 200 people coming to your wedding invite 220. You are paying the caterer for an expected 200 people. If only 180 show up you are losing money. But if 210 show up it is easy to add 1 more table and pay the extra. You will get most of that back in presents and gratitude any way.

it is more traditional to mail them out but it is in better edicit to give them plenty of time to rsvp and see if they can make arrangement to be there, the time factor is always an issue!!!!! so at this point in time you should hand them out

I think it is o.k to hand out the ones you don't have an address for. When you are handing them to the person tell them that you couldn't find their address. If they are your friends they should understand.

Hand them out. Personally, Ive perceived it nicer and really cool when people invite me personally and hand me an invitation to the event, than just mailing me something. This is ofcourse if the person lives close. If it's in another state, mail will work better, with a phone call first.
