Why does my Buffalo router disconnect me for a few seconds every 40-60 minutes?

I have a Buffalo router that has been great except for one problem. It disconnects me for a couple seconds once ever 40 to 60 minutes. This isn't noticeable if I'm visiting websites, but if I'm streaming music or video or playing an online game I get disconnected from it and have to start streaming the media again or reconnect to the game server. I've reset the router to factory defaults to make sure it wasn't my configuration, and I've changed the MTU size (Buffalo's suggestion to me) to no avail. I updated the firmware, and haven't seen any change. This happens to every PC connected to the router, and it doesn't happen when I bypass the router. I'm hoping to avoid replacing the router, as I no longer have my proof of purchase and Buffalo won't replace it for free without one. Any ideas of something else I should try?

Additional Details

I am not connected to the router with a wireless card, I'm directly plugged into it.

I'm not using a modem, I have fiber internet. I have bypassed the router and connected directly to the gateway, however, and experienced no problems then. The issue is only when using the router. I also took the router to another location, using internet service provided by another ISP, and had the same problem when using the router.

You'll want to make sure that it's the router and not your modem that's the problem.

Try plugging your computer in directly to the modem and stream music or play a game or something. If you get disconnected like this, then the problem is not with the router. It may be your modem.

If you have DSL, check all your phone filters and make sure they're properly installed.

If you've checked your filters, or if you're on cable, call your ISP and see if they can check the lines. There may be some faulty wiring somewhere that they can fix.

If you DON'T disconnect without the router, though, you'll have to try out their tech support and see if they can offer any solutions for you.

Try updating the firmware on the router. It should be available from the manufacturer's website. If that doesn't work, I'd recommend a different brand of router.

    1. Cisco
    2. Linksys
    3. D-Link
    4. Netgear (last resort if you the above brands aren't available)

    These are my personal preferences.

more than likley the router has an issue with

    1 firmware
    2 heat

I have provided the manufacture website so you can download any updated firmware. If firmware doesn't correct the issue it will probably be a heat issue due to the time interval but it may not be. If you choose to purchase another router here are some suggestions

    1) LinkSYS (Cisco) Currently running always have been satisfied
    2)CISCO
    3)Dlink
    4)NetGear
5)SMC (not completely satisfied I have one..it locks up from time to time)

    I do not recomend

Airlink (Works great for limited time 1-2 years max)
Buffalo ( tends to be troublesome)
    Belkin ( recieved multiple DOA's)
