Partition and install second OS?

I currently have windows xp on my hard drive. What i want to do is install a second OS on the same hard drive. I heard i need a pertition but i dont know how to make one. I would really appreciate it if someone could give me DETAILED instructions/websites to get a second operating system installed. After all, i dont want to lose my first operating system.

    Recently I've installed Win2000 an XP into one partition and it works great. However stability of your system depends on the type of second OS. But anyway it will work great in case you install it onto another partition. Since your operating system is XP I'd recommend you to repartition it using Disk Director> it is very reliable prog which will split your partition without data loss.Also Disk Director has built in utility called Os Selector which is very useful in case you run several operating systems on your pc.

    I agree, it's not a good idea to install 2 OS's on the same drive, much easier & safer to add a second HD & windows help file has instructions how set up boot choice on startup.
