What does the "high" from Xanax feel like?

I don't get a high from it; it just makes my panic attacks go away, which is why I have an Rx for it. But I know people who don't have panic disorder and take it for the "buzz" they get from it. I get no buzz at all, just relief from anxiety. So what does the buzz feel like? Am I really missing something special?

Well, I don't recommend pursuing a "buzz" because in order to attain it you need to take more than is prescribed and then you become addictedm like I did, and detoxing from any benzo but particularly Xanax is something you do not want to experience. trust me. But to answer your question, it isn't so much a "buzz" as it is a melting sort of feeling. I would feel like I had just melted and blended in with the air around me. I don't know how else to describe it. It was instant-calm and no feeling whatsoever. Of course, when the Xanax wears off and you feel again, you are anything but calm, your senses go into overdrive and you develop superhero level abilities to for example, hear. Everything is amplified from sound to light and it is very unpleasant.

Just take them as prescribed and what they're for. Any minor "buzz," aka relaxed floating someone taking more than prescribed gets is totally canceled out by the adverse feelings that inevitably come when that "buzz" wears off.

Oh, and if a doctor gets THE slightest inclination you are using it for a buzz or in any other inappropriate manner? Off you come and they have no mercy about it. You'll be tapered by safe medical standards and then you will get nothing ever again and not just Xanax. anything that has the potential for abuse is forever off the table for you so really, please dont.

alright so I'm kinda tired of people's warnings toward abusing drugs. The people asking about it don't usually give a flying **** and you're wasting everyone's time. If you had a bad experience overdosing that's you, not everyone is destined to that fate. You just super suck.

Yeah, I have the same thing. It just helps with the anxiety so I can feel normal.

I would imagine it just feels like intense relaxation, considering that it slows down your nervous system and vital functions like heart rate and breathing.

I have no clue, consider yourself very fourtunate. This medication is working very well for you, don't worry about the "buzzzzz", you're not supposed to get a "buzz" from it. Xanax is a benzodiazapine, it's along the lines of valume, and klonopin. These are sedatives not stimulants. In respects to a high, i think you already got your high, being free of anxiety alone is a high in itself. Wouldn't you agree? I know when i went through anxiety i couldn't wait to find relief. I'm sure you feel the same. Now that i think about it i think we do know what the high off of xanax feels like after all, 'free from anxiety', that's a high in itself, agreed?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! take care, maria

I, too, suffer from anxiety/panic, and when my panic attacks were frequent Xanax was a lifesaver for me. I don't know about any 'buzz' either. It makes me feel physcially relaxed, which seems to allow my mind to follow. I can't imagine anyone would get a buzz or feel really awesome from taking Xanax *unless* they had anxiety or were very high strung. I would think if you took it when you weren't anxious you'd just feel very tired...?

The few times I've taken it (when it was prescribed) whatever "buzz" I felt was simply the natural reaction to the medication - calm and at ease.

I imagine if someone took more than the recommended dosage that feeling would be heightened which might give someone the impression they were buzzed.

My mother takes it when she flies and she's expressed she prefers it for the sole purpose that it DOESN'T give her that weird "high" feeling and that it only helps her calm down while staying alert and focused.
