Rather than viewing friendship, I would view companionship. Much fewer expectations, you see, its a more fluid concept. The word "friend" used to mean that you'll physically stick by a person through thick and thin, know all his secrets, etc ... I mean, honestly, one can call himself to be lucky if he has one or two of those in his life. Companionship on the other hand ... we all are companions, wayfarers in life ... and even online.

That is a good quote. I view friends in a similar way. But I'd like to add that friends to me aren't what I'm used to seeing other people be to each other. To me they are people who can tell you things without fear, and you can do the same. They will not take from you more than they enrich, nor threaten you or call you crazy or stupid without trying harder to understand what you said or did. If they do, it should be in private and not in front of other people, unless they tell the truth why they said it. They've got your back and know you will defend them forever. Sometimes people aren't perfect though, and that is where forgiveness comes in.

I love that quote. Sharing new worlds through friendship. Through our associations and relationships with those around us there is so much we can learn and so much we can give. There's a difference I think between associations and friendship in that we get to know our friends a little deeper. There is more sharing. More caring. More trust. A friend is someone who is there for you when you need a shoulder to cry on. Being a friend means being available to celebrate the good times and help others through the bad. Friendship is a wonderful word and yes, a beautiful world.

Unfortunately I view it with a poor opinion much to the chagrin of myself and many. I truly have had only one "friend" in my life and they are no longer apart of it.
Acquaintances is a better word for me and this category puts people into a different aspect altogether. I don't have to, nor do I expect anyone to tell me their deepest secrets and neither will I in return. Because of my faith, I have a place to go to tell my deepest secrets and share my life's mistakes. Everyone needs someone to talk to on occasion and let go of things that are bothersome. Fortunately I do have a venue, as tight knit as it may be, but it works for me...
