America the Beautiful?

In my days I've traveled all over the world. I've been all over the Middle East, Europe, Asia, North America and the United Kingdom

Through all of my travels I've come to a very well researched decision. While the world is truly an amazing and beautiful place with wonderful countries and people...

For Me, There's no place like the United States of Amerca.

That's why I love Ray Charles' version of America the Beautiful. It is truly one of the greatest and most patriotic tributes to our nation.

My question is;

If you like the song America the Beautiful, who sings your favorite version?

Are there any other songs that give you that heartfelt patriotic feeling? What are they?

Ray Charles does that song better than anyone ever has.

Also " Proud to be an American" by Lee greenwood is another of my favs.

I agree completely. When you think about other countries, their governments, and their rights compared to ours...America really is the greatest country on Earth. And i'd have to agree with the 1st answerer, "Proud to be an American" is probably my favorite patriotic song. (Also a fan of Toby Keith's patriotic songs).

Yes, when Ray sings that song, you can hear the love he had for a country he could never see, for a blind man to be singing about 'Beauty", and sincerely meaning it, it's enough to really choke you up.

I also like Neil Young's version of "Home on the Range", most prominently featured in the GREAT Bill Murray movie, "Where the Buffalo Roam".

Star Spangled Banner does it for me. I do a very soulful and heartfelt rendition of it. I have performed it at many shows, but my dream is to perform it for a 9/11 Memorial or a Yankees game.

So many great songs out there....(confession...I actually stand and place my hand over my heart when I hear our national anthem...even when I am alone!)

I agree with you. I was born and raised in Europe and it is nice enough. I like visiting but I wouldn't want to live there anymore. The USA is so much better, there is no comparison, it is a whole different concept. The people in Europe are really like sheep with a "oh well" attitude and that includes most of my relatives.

I agree, Ray Charles captures the essence of America the Beautiful like no one else. Another beautiful song I love about America is Golden Dream, the one at Epcot's American Adventure at Walt Disney World in Orlando, it always brings me to tears:

ALPHA MALE for PRES '08! Why, you say? look at these answers.... not one 'flame', insult, or -well- negativity! nothin' but American positivity! ...and in the politics section of all places! i don't think i've seen that happen on here before...
'The Star Spangled Banner' - i know, i know... cliche. gets me goosebump'd and teary eyed every time. doesn't matter who sings it AS LONG as they don't cheese it up mariah carey style, or try to throw 'their own spin' on it (hendrix version is 'okay', no goosebumps tho... hehheh.)
