Is Miralax the smae thing I took for my pre-colonoscopy? Lesser strength?

Nope..for your scope, they would have given you a gallon of golytly or phosphosoda. Miralax is an "osmotic"..pulls in water from your bowel(actually just keeps you from reabsorbing it) It works by retaining water in the stool, softening it and increasing the frequency of bowel movements. It may take up to 2 to 4 days to work. The golytly or phosophosoda is a purgative..it works by manipulating electrolytes in your bowel..it works fast and hard. If you took this regularly for constipation, it would throw your electrolytes out of balance and could cause muscle, nerve and cardiac problems. Mirilax is safer, but effective given time and diet(fruits, vegis, prune juice..try it hot like coffee if you dont like it cold..and exercise...moving around makes your bowels get up and go too...and lots of water...unless restricted by your doc..eg due to congestive heart failure) Good luck and hope this helps.
