No black to a daytime wedding?

Question

My cousin is getting married this January. It's bad enough that I can not figure out to wear because they are very conservative (so like I cant wear small straps or a halter type dress. Or just anything that shows much of my upper arms or upper chest, in respect to them.) as well as me not wating to completly freeze my butt off. But now I just read that your not supposed to wear black to a daytime wedding? Is this true? I read it on about.com. I really hope its not because that like really limits it to what a person can wear haha.

My brother recently got married this summer, and the girls bridesmaid dresses were black (with a light blue sash) at first I thought it was kind of strange, but I really think this is in for the season. It works well if you think about men wearing black suits. Good luck finding something.

The rule about black is no longer followed. But you absolutely can't wear white. That is only for the bride.

Some black is ok but not ALL black like your going to a funeral.

Traditionally no, you can't wear black to a daytime function. However, that really only applies if their wedding is being done with perfect ettique from all guests. I would wear what you wanted.

No definitely not to a daytime wedding. Just as you wouldn't think of wearing white to a wedding right? Daytime weddings usually call for lighter colors but if black is the color you're most comfortable in -- try shades of blue (navy?) or purple (deep plum color). The key thing you mentioned was that your cousin is conservative. The safest thing is to steer clear of black or white.

Personally, I would not wear black to any wedding unless the bride has chosen it as one of her colors and you know others (women/girls) will wear black. I'm not counting the tuxes ...

I think a little black on your dress is ok .
Just wear formal clothes to show your respect and regards to them. That will be ok.

no, its not true! i suppose at one time it was, but not any more! just don't wear white, as someone as already mentioned.
why don't you look for a black cocktail style dress, strappy is fine and then find a bolero jacket to go over it? that way you are conservative for her wedding but have a super sexy dress for those dinner dates and cocktail parties!

What could be more classic or timelessly elegant than a little black dress? Dress it up with some cute shoes, coloured bag and coloured shawl/pashmina, and some funky coloured beads, you'll look stunning and more than appropriate for a wedding
