all things are composed of matter. Matter in the sence of substance, atoms, etc.
Therefore, the phrase "mind over matter" implies that if you think about something well enough, you can defeat any foe or solve any worldly problem.

WHATS THE MATTER? TAKE THAT ISSUE INTO YOU. AND OWN IT ,,, WITHIN ,,, YOU KNOW ..... YOUR MIND .... NEVER LET THE SITUATION( THE MATTER) BE BETTER THAN WHAT YOU THINK IN YOUR MIND.

In my opinion, mind over matter means that you are what you think. Conscious thoughts drive subconscious thoughts, feelings, and actions. It is a matter of willpower. If a person tells himself he will be happy and successful, he will become happy and successful. if he believes he will be an unhappy, miserable failure, that's what he will become. An example- i had a puzzle made from wooden blocks, which had to be manipulated in a certain way to produce a certain configuration. I thought it was impossible, that there was a trick to it, so i gave up on it. i later found out that there was no trick, it was just very very difficult. Once I knew that it could be done, i committed myself, and did it. simple as that. if you believe you will succeed at something, you will. If you believe you will fail, you will. If you think you suck at bowling, you do, if you believe you can and will get better, you will get better. This applies to a myriad of situations, from things like pain management to career counseling.

It has to do with will power. You must have will power to overcome obstacles. For example, you can choose to quit smoking rather than continuing to smoke...you can experience an enormous amount of pain and not succomb to the pain......you can loose weight if you decide that is what you want to do.

If you have the will power, you can succeed at anything you "put your mind to". This is the essence of what "mind over matter" means.
