Does anyone have any info on medroxyprogesterone (medicine that makes period start)?

Question

I went to the dr. yesterday. I went off birth control in Feb. and have only had 2 periods since then. The dr. checked my cervix and said everything looked fine there. She is doing some blood work on me, but I haven't heard anything about that yet. She also prescribed medroxyprogesterone for a week. It is supposed to make my period start. Does anyone have any info on this medicine? Does it make ovulation start? Has anyone taken it and got pregnant during that cycle right after taking it? How long did it take your period to start? I bought an opk today. I thought this would let me know if I am ovulating or not. I was referred to another dr. that I will see in a month, so I thought this would be good info to give him. I'm not really sure when to use the opk though. Since I haven't been having a period I don't know about what time I would ovulate. Sorry there are so many questions!

I took something like that but it was called prometrium...same thing really though. I started my period the next day after finishing them. (you should start within a week of finishing)Take them at night because they will make you extremely drunk feeling. At least they did to me! You should ovulate around the 14th day of your cycle. Your first day will start when you get a flow of blood, not spotting. If you are trying to get pregnant I would start having sex at about the 10th day of your cycle and have it at least every other day until about the 18th day of your cycle. This is because some women ovulate early and others are later. But it will always be around the 14th day of your cycle. But it is best to have sex the days before ovulation that way the sperm is already up there and waiting, they can last for about 7 days and your egg will only last for about 24 hrs. You should start taking your ovulation tests on cycle day eleven.....and each day after for seven days or so. It does not require first morning urine to use them (like pregnancy tests do). It is best to take them in the afternoon. Good luck and I hope I answered all of your questions!

My doctor put me on it a couple of months ago. Its called the 10 day progesterone challenge. (I dont have normal periods at all) So I took it for 10 days and I believe a week after you are done taking it you should get your period (they call it withdrawl bleeding). If you dont get your period it COULD BE (not a definite) a sign of ovarian failure of some sort. Also, I read that it wasn't good to get prego while on the meds because it sheds your uterus lining therefore may cause you to miscarry if there is any chance of being pregnant. I dont believe it is an ovulatory med. I think its just for shedding the lining. I hope I was some kind of help!
