Inderal is a beta blocker that is specifically designed to reduce adrenaline. Although it is a heart medication, it is prescribed as an off-label remedy for anxiety. Often times performers will use it to prevent a rapid heart rate. If your airplane anxiety causes a rapid heart rate, Inderal would be the logical medication to use. It however will not remove the anxious thoughts or feelings you have towards flying. Xanax in my opinion is an effective as-needed medication to relax your nerves and to reduce the racing negative thoughts when you are about to face the anxious situation. After of course consulting my psychiatrist,I have used both together and they really do help with the situations that make me panic. The key is NOT to take them everyday, but only before the specific situation that causes your panic and anxiety. Only your psychiatrist can tell you what dose of each you should take.
