I have used Advantage 9 on both my cats and Advantage on my dogs. I have used other products but this one was the quickest and had less irration for the animals then other products such as Frontline.

Advantage Flea Control for Dogs

Advantage flea for dogs is used for adult dogs and puppies 7 weeks and older. It kills flea larvae in the dogs surroundings. It kills 98-100% of fleas within 12 hours. It is applied monthly and each packet contains 4 applications providing 4 months of protection. It is safe and easy to us. It can be use on pregnant and lactating animals, is water-resistant, and continues to work even after shampooing.

Advantage Flea Control for Cats

Advantage flea control for cats is for cats and kittens 8 weeks and older. It kills flea larvae in the dogs surroundings. It kills 98-100% of fleas within 12 hours. It is applied monthly and each packet contains 4 applications providing 4 months of protection. It is safe and easy to use. It can be use on pregnant and lactating animals, is water-resistant, and continues to work even after shampooing. Find the one right for the weight of your cat. Get your cat started on Advantage flea treatment before the fleas start to bite. Try 4, 6, or 12 month effective flea protection.

However, if your animal does not have fleas, I would recommend using this as a prevention if your vet approves. Things such as flea collars do not work. They stop fleas from going in the ears and that is it. Using powders can irratate your animals skin and respitory systems and don't prevent them or get rid of them well.

Good luck!

As a dog breeder and someone who travels to dog shows and exposing my dogs to so many other dogs... let me tell you what I ALWAYS bring in my 'bag of tricks' as do other dog showpersons... Johnson and Johnson's baby shampoo!
This is safe on very young puppies who aren't yet old enough to have chemical based flea product put on them.
Be generous, lather well and let sit for about 10 minutes. Wash off and comb with a flea comb. Presto! Fleas are DEAD.

Safe for cats as well and will work on older dogs of course. But for older dogs, I prefer using Ivomectrin. Be aware that this product is not safe for any collie breeds (border collie, collie, sheltie, etc) and also not safe for cats. But it is the active ingredient for most flea products so be sure to read your labels if you have a collie breed.

Now aside from the baby shampoo (Johnsons and Johnson's, please, the other brands don't do the job the same) you could also sprinkle them with Diatomaceous Earth or DE for short. You can get this at most health food stores. Be sure it's food quality and not the type sold for pools. This stuff is actually crushed echoskeletons of a marine life and works like shards of glass to a hard bodied insects outer parts and causes them to quickly dehydrate and die. No chemicals needed. No worry of reactions. It's even safe to feed, sprinkle on gardens, etc. I used to have a professional aviary where I raised rare and endangered parrots and softbilled birds. I would sprinkle it in their nests even. Very, very safe.

Will also work wonders in ridding your carpeting, etc of fleas without nasty smelling chemicals.

A raw food diet, limited vaccines! We have not had fleas on our dogs since we switched to raw feeding 5 years ago. We also do limited vaccines and keep our dogs healthy through the best diet available (RAW) and fleas and ticks are not interested in our dogs. We do not put chemicals and toxins on our dogs for prevention just because we are told we should. There are better ways to keep your dog healthy then to drug them on a regular basis and feeding them corn.
