What dose phenergan do and why did the dr. give it to me?

I was in labor and I was at about 2 or 3 cm. They gave me the shot of phenergan. I need to know if this was suposed to stop the contractions. If not, what was it for.

For nausea. You must have said you felt sick.

Phenergan is to relieve upset, nauseated stomaches.

It helps with nasea and vomiting. It doesn't have any effect on labor or contractions. It might have been becasue you'd eaten recently, before you went into labor. They don't like for you to eat close to labor becasue many women will throw up if they do.

I have no experience with this particular drug, so I can't help you there, but I feel the need to say that you need to ask questions when receiving medical treatment. They are more than happy to tell you what's going on...in fact, they should have told you then. You need to understand what kind of treatment you are receiving.

I forgot the answer to this and dont want ot miss inform you. Every drug works different depending on the situation. Phenergan is often combined with codeine and they always prescribe me this when I get sick from bronchitis. Search for onlione Physician Desk Reference or PDR. Ive been given Phenergan for nausea and vomiting. It can also make you very sleepy.
