Avapro is used to treat high blood pressure. A member of the new family of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists, it works by preventing the hormone angiotensin II from narrowing the blood vessels, an action that tends to raise blood pressure. Avapro may be prescribed alone or with other blood pressure medications.

In people with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, Avapro is also prescribed to stave off damage to the kidneys, often delaying the need for dialysis and a kidney transplant.

You must take Avapro regularly for it to be effective. Since blood pressure declines gradually, it may be a couple of weeks before you get the full benefit of Avapro, and you must continue taking it even if you are feeling well. Avapro does not cure high blood pressure, it merely keeps it under control.

I take Avapro HCT, which contains irbesantin/hydrochlorothiazide. There is no mention of any avandria, or anything else. I'd like to know the reason for the question.

Avapro has only irbesartan in it. It's a blood pressure medicine in the ARB (angiotensin receptor blocker) class. If you mean "Avandia" the diabetes medicine, no Avapro does not contain Avandia. I know of no medicine called "Avandria." Avandia is the brand name for rosiglitazone, a diabetic medication.

Avapro is a blood pressure medication.
I beleive in your question you meant Avandia (not AvandRia).
NO, they are not the same. Avandia is a medication for diabetes and currently its safety has been questioned.
SO if you are diabetic and prescribed Avapro, that is an execellent choice to protec your kidneys against high sugar.
You should also keep your systolic pressure below130 mmHg.
