What can I do to promote the healing of my gums???

I recently had my wisdom teeth removed, the whole process when fine, but after the surgery I accidently wriped out 2 of the stiches near my socked on the lower jaws. As a result of that I pulled the gum away from the moral and it has been swollen for a few days now.

What can I do to promote the healing of the gum, and reduce the swelling also.

I am still on the antibotics because during the excrtaction of my wisdom teeth, alot of bone was removed too. I am not taking any pain killers becuase well there is no pain.

I am just worried that my back moral might be at risk of getting an infection or something becuase the gum is pulled basically off the bone, and I still have some bone exposed from the surgery.

Additional Details

I had my wisdom teeth removed 8 days ago. I have followed my post-op instructions to a T. The swelling I am concerned about is not around my jaw or face - it is actually the gum the was wripped away from my back moral. Also, it was confirmed by my dentist that I wripped my stitches out because he removed the rest of them.

actually a lot of patients accidentaly remove the stitches on their gums, and its ok as long as there's still stitched part

it's super normal to have swelling after wisdom tooth surgery, and you dont have to worry about infection, coz the dentist give you antibiotics to prevent infection, if there's no pain, its probably caused by the effect of anesthesia and if the pain comes, just take pain killer

just remember to obey the prescription of your dentist, coz it's crucial ^_^

Gud Luck ^_^

Did the Dr give u post op instruction? if he did follow them exactly as he has them down. How long ago did u get them out? the swelling is very normal. whatever u do do not smoke or use a straw for a few days. that will cause a dry socket and they can be very painful. Also it is possible that your dr used dissolving suture, meaning that u didnt rip out. They could just be falling out on there own. But if you are worried make an appointment to see your dr.

Back to the dentist for you I'm afraid. In the meantime, if you can bear the discomfort/taste, try rinsing with salted warm water (1 teaspoon per cup) around every 4 hours. It really works.

In the short term you should rinse your mouth out several times a day with salted warm water or if you don't like the taste use a soluble aspirin

    Dental care & mouth care.

After every meal, chew a little salt and gargle with water. Soft brush can be used to clean the particles caught between the teeth and the gums. Make it habit to clean the teeth every morning and before retiring to bed. In India, people use thin twig of a Babul, Banyan or a Neem tree (known as Datoon) as a brush. First it is to be crushed to make it soft and then use it like a brush. It is advisable to us a Datoon of Babul, Banyan or Neem tree at least once a day.

It is reported by experienced dentists that tooth pastes available in the marked are not much effective. Instead, the following tooth powder or paste which can be easily made at home has been found quite useful for the care of gums and teeth :

    1. Tooth Powder : Mixture of finely ground alum powder 40% and rock salt or regular salt powder 60%. For better results, a few drops of lemon may be added. In case of dental problems, adding a little of 'Sudarshan' (a bitter Ayrvedic powder is also recommended.

    2. Tooth-paste : For dental problems like bleeding, pyorrhoea, toothache, gingivitis, etc. make a paste of

    50% alum powder
10% rock salt or table salt powder
10% Sudarshan powder (an Ayurvedic preparation)
    15% edible oil (unrefined)
    10% glycerine tanic acid
    5% camphor.

The paste made of this mixture can be massaged on the teeth and gums in the morning and evening with fingers. It ca be packed in collapsible tubes/jars and used, as tooth-paste.

    3. Even massaging the gums with a mixture of 70% unrefined edible oil (seasame or groundnut or coconut), 15% glycerine tanic acid and 15% fine powder of rock salt or table salt is useful for good, healthy teeth and gums. Make it a daily habit. Please not that healthy gums are more useful than sparkling white teeth.

    4. Mouth Freshener : Gargling with a lemon juice mixed with lukewarm water, freshens the mouth. Take a quarter of a lemon, massage it on teeth and gums and then gargle with water. Even chewing of mango, tulsi or betel leaves after meals is good, and so it is advised in India.

    5. Exercises for teeth : Keep the lips closed. Pound the upper teeth on lower teeth for 30 to 40 times twice a day. Then massage the saliva on gums with the tongue. That will ensure proper blood circulation in teeth and increase the life of healthy teeth and gums.
