A 6x6 post of my kids play structure has been partially sawed/gnawed thru.I live in Westchester, NY. Ideas?

At first we thought someone had taken an axe to the post. Looking at it more closely it has scratch marks. Must be quit sharp to chew through a thick pressure treated piece of cedar wood. Quite neatly too.

Is there water nearby? A creek, maybe? We have beavers in the creek near our house and they will come up from the water and have gnawed on our deck. Destructive little rascals!

Do you any beavers around? Try reinforcing the post with 2x4's nailed securely to each side. Don't know waht was chewing on it but most chewing and browsing animals don't like the tste of tobasco sauce. So. paint it periodically with tobasco.
