Can you take Vallium whilst you are pregnant?
I get really nervous at the Dentist and I have an appointment tomorrow. My Dentist prescribed me Vallium months ago to take an hour before I go in for an appointment. I am now pregnant. I wonder if I am allowed to take this whilst I am pregnant?

to all those suggesting yes it is ok,perhaps you should read up on the drug a bit more:
"Valium (diazepam) is in the FDA pregnancy category D. This means that Valium (diazepam) is known to harm an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant".

- I have only asked a few questions on Yahoo answers however, I can't believe the number of judgemental loons out there. I just wanted some suggestions - do you think I would actually do something without consulting my Dr and harm my baby because Y! answers said so? Sheesh.

I have an anxiety disorder and my doctor still wrote them out to me while i was pregnant.
I would take one only when needed. My son is and was healthy.
I am not a doctor but taking one valium isn't going to hurt nothing

No one can decide if you should take a medication or not except for you, in collaboration with your doctor. That being said, no drug has been proven safe to use during pregnancy. Valium has been listed as a category D drug when used during pregnancy. From Hale (2002): "There is positive evidence of human fetal risk, but the benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk (e.g., if the drug is needed in a life-threatening situation or for a serious disease for which safer drugs cannot be used or are ineffective)." I urge you to talk to your dentist before taking this medication. I hope this helps.

of course you can, you can drink and never see you obgyn either. but th harmfull dangerous effects it will have on the you and the baby will be irreversable, maybe you dont need to take any narcotics. prenatal pills make your hair and nails grow so they must work wonders on teeth too. good luck and god bless. and prescriptions expire after 6 months (i thnk) reschedule cuz i dont hink thedentist will even x ray your teeth while prego.

i was on tablets for anxiety and i fell pregnant. When I went to the doctors to tell her I was pregnant the first thing she done was stopped my prescription for valium, I would phone your surgery this afternoon and ask them to get your doctor to phone you and let them know the situation and get their advice before you go to your dental appointment tomorrow.
