Cabbage Soup Diet???

I want to start the cabbage soup diet tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone has tried it or knows someone who tried it first. Does it really work? And if so, how much weight do you lose? I want to lose 30lbs. I want to use the cabbage soup to jump-start my diet. I'd like to lose some weight really fast, and then gradually lose 1-2 pounds a week after that. Any help would be great!!!

Additional Details

I just posted another question about the Atkins diet. If you all don't mind looking at it and telling me what you think I'd really appreciate it! You've all been very helpful so far. Thanks!

you'd lose about 15lbs if you remain faithful to it. but i guarantee you won't lose anymore after stopping. you'll gain it all back as fast you lost it. you'd also suffer from bad moods and will fart lots (for real). you'll also be damaging your own body if you do this in the long term.

this is a diet recommended to patients due to undergo surgery but are overweight to the point of life threatening.

not recommended diet. i also can't be arsed to type the same ideal diet over and over again.

just look to running regularly. it is literally the cure you seek.

    It does work.
I did it back in the day and my friends and I lost 7 lbs each.
Be careful and see a dr while you are at it.
One thing I did want to say is that we, when we did the diet needed to lose weight. If you are thin already i dont recommend doing this.
    Be careful

It does work, but it'll make you go to the bathroom a LOT. Plus it isn't very healthy..... It actually can be quite dangerous.

I actually did the cabbage soup diet for 2 months, it worked but I wouldn't recommend it, it doesn't prepare you for eating out in the real world at all. Its more for heart patients who need to lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time. If you go with this diet, you will still need to severely altar your eating habits after wards, which is the hard part, not the part about being on a diet. Also, the soup causes a lot of gas, so I would suggest picking yourself up some beano. Lastly, you get tired of that soup really fast, its been YEARS and the smell of that soup still makes me nauseous. Whatever you decide, good luck, I hope it works!

My sister did the cabbage soup diet for a week and lost 12 pounds, the only reason I haven't tried it is because she said you needed to be close to a restroom all day :( . A few years back I did the Mayo Clinic diet and lost about 10 pounds in a week, basically you ate a lot of protein throughout the day. Let me know how you do!

    "Cabbage Soup Diet

    Pros:

Easy to follow and very little cooking. Most days consist of the soup and certain other whole, uncooked foods.

    Cons:

Very restrictive both in food choices and calories, which make this diet very difficult to follow precisely (and you will become very bored with cabbage soup by the end!)
Because the weight loss is an end result of starving your body of calories, the results are only temporary and the weight will come back once your regular diet is back in place.
Many people who have tried this diet report feeling light-headed and weak, and notice a decrease in ability to concentrate .

Thoughts on the Cabbage Soup Diet:

If you need to drop the weight for a one-time event and it has come down to trying the cabbage soup diet or just starving yourself, then I would recommend this diet – it’s a small step up from starvation…but not by much.

This diet is much too low in complex carbohydrates, fat, protein, vitamins, and minerals to continue for an extended period of time, and even if you only follow it for a week, the results you see will be temporary. You cannot lose 10 pounds of fat in a week – the weight you’re losing with this diet is water weight or muscle – neither of which is going to help you in the long run. And to make matters worse, you might even end up gaining more weight back than you started with! Your body is smart and after a week of nearly starving it of valuable nutrients and energy, it will store anything and everything it can from the food you eat, just in case you starve yourself again (your body always wants to make sure it has something to live off of). When your body is storing all of these things, you'll find yourself gaining weight again rapidly, sometimes more than you initially lost.

Long-term safety of the Cabbage Soup Diet: Good - If the program is only followed for one week, there shouldn’t be any long-term health issues. If it followed for longer than the recommended 7 days or repeated continually, the risk of health issues increases.

Long-term effectiveness of the Cabbage Soup Diet: Ugly – long term use of this diet deprives you of essential nutrients and could lead to a host of health-related problems."
