Does Effexor xr cause weight loss?

i was on effexor xr .75 mg and i lost weight on it. i think the reason why i was over weight is because of my depression. effexors helped with my depression and i felt better about my self. i started enjoying life again. i was 174lbs when i started the meds 3mos later i weighed 146. i started taking care of myself. i quit taking it because i couldn't afford it without medicaid because it was 119 dollars a mos and i am now back up to 170lbs.

In the beginning weeks you will probably lose weight. Then everything will level out. Effexor can cause loss of appetite when you 1st start taking it.

To Pinky below...Effexor is an anxiety depression drug...not a weightloss drug. Do some research before you try pushing your products where they are unwelcome.

Every medication can have side effects and can affect people differently. Some might gain weight on effexor, whilst others might lose weight, others may not see any change. If you are concerned, you should discuss this with your doctor.

I took Effexor for quite some time and actually gained weight as a side effect. The weight also started coming off pretty quickly when I was able to stop taking it.
