Silicon is none of the above. I have a few small pieces of
elementary silicon; it's a steel-gray metallic-looking solid.
It won't burn (but will combine with oxygen or halogens
under the right conditions); it is not very reactive, and it
is not corrosive. You can handle it without harm.
The most common compound of silicon is the dioxide, quartz.
