July is named after Julius Caesar who was born in the month on July 12. The Declaration of Independence was signed on the fourth of July, 1776 while the Bastille was stormed on July 1789. The Battle of Gettysburg was fought between July 1 and 3, 1863 resulting in a Union victory.

Louis Pasteur tested an anti-rabies vaccine on July 6 while Hawaii was annexed in 1898. The Battle of Britain began on July 10. The first atomic bomb is detonated in New Mexico on July 16. The great fire of Rome occurred on July 18 as did the Spanish Civil War. Neil Armstong was the first man on the moon on July 21 while Mussolini fell on July 29, 1943.
