I know that two preliminary "flights" would take place before the principal experiment begins, and will involve a 14-day and a 105-day version.
But how long with they be in space for the main mission?

The experiment, which is being run by the Russian Institute of Biological Problems, will sequester the six volunteers in a "Mars Expeditionary Complex" for 520 days beginning in late 2008.

According to the project's Web site, the trial proposes to simulate a space flight to Mars in all of its ramifications, including a 250-day "trip" to the Red Planet, a 30-day period on its surface, and a 240-day return flight.

During their nearly one-and-a-half year isolation, crewmembers will experience many of the conditions likely to be encountered by astronauts on a real flight through interplanetary space.

105 days + return to Earth and injection to mars.

It takes anywhere from 60 to 100 days round trip to reach Mars at closest point.

The 14 day part would probalby be in ORBIT around Mars.

You figure 30-45 days to get their from injection. 14 days to orbit. and 30-45 days to get back.

Then you sit in Earth Orbit for a while before you can re-enter.

The whole trip can take anywwhere from 90 - 110 days from LAUNCH on EARTH to RETURN to Earth soil. Minimum.

Without enough space and a lander it's a useless mission.

OK you can probalby live on a Princes Cruise Ship for 110 days, but they won't be going there on a Princess Cruise ship!
