Try using an old toothbrush dilute the paint down a bit with water if it is water-based. Turpentine if using oils. dip the bristles of the toothbrush into the paint and then apply your finger to the bristles (depressing them) slowly move your finger backward and of off them. As they pop back up they will flick the paint onto the canvas in a splatter pattern. If you are working in a larger scale you can achieve this same effect with a larger paintbrush. Try using a 3" brush from a hardware store. Whatever you do TEST THIS ON A SURFACE FIRST AND PRACTICE IT A FEW TIMES. get the technique down and then use it on the actual artwork.

My only suggestion is pour small amounts of red paint into a fan.... Stand back and watch it splatter...

Blood sprays. Water down some paint an put it in a spray bottle or squirt gun. Another option is to dip a knife into the paint and make a slashing motion so the paint runs off the knife. The paint should be the consistency of blood.

get red spray paint
keep the round cap that goes over the can
remove it from can.. spray into it so a small pool is made inside
then hold on to the cap and swing your arm infront of your canvas...the result is a good splatter
