Not all of them will have works on line, as they are copyrighted material. The best place to find them will be your school or local library (yep, a real building, not a virtual one).

However, you can Google each one to get a list of their works, which might make it easier. And, one or two of them ARE in the public domain, such as Nathanial Hawthorne (Scarlet Letter).

The Essay and General Literature Index can be searched by author for essays written by that person that have been published in a book. The Arts and Humanities Index or MLA Bibliography can be searched by author for articles that appeared in arts/humanities journals or in modern language periodicals. Similarly, there are periodical articles indexes in subject areas like general periodicals, social sciences, sciences, etc. You can find these sources in libraries.

If you want to stay online and find a few articles, go to:
www.worldcatlibraries.org. Click Advanced Search. In the Author box type in the name, like, Tan Amy. You can search all formats of publications or limit your search to articles.
Results will bring up publications with the words Amy and Tan anywhere in the author field, but specific authors will be listed and you can limit to Amy Tan specifically.
These results will NOT be complete in regard to the author's essays or articles; they are just a quick way to find out about something they have written. Then you need to locate the source.
