Question about "birth control injection"?

I had a baby girl 2 and half months ago and got the "birth control injection" yesterday, how long before I am safe to have unprotected sex, and how accurate it the injection? I REALLY REALLY dont want to get pregnant again now.

When I got my first shot, the nurse practitioner told me it was effective immediately. I'd probably use a back-up method for a week though, like they recommend with many other BC methods.

I only gained a little weight on it (10 lbs or so), but I did experience the moods and just a general "not right" feeling. I was on the shot for a year, and it took another year to get my period back. I got pregnant immediately after my period came back though (I don't know if I could've gotten pregnant earlier, as hubby was in Iraq). I personally wouldn't use it again. A lot of people love it, but a lot of people hate it as well. Just thought I'd share my personal experience with it!

If you really don't want to get pregnant, Depo Provera is one of the most effective methods. As other people mentioned, nothing is 100%, but it's really close!

It was 100% effective for me I was on Depo Provera and it was a fabulous birth control BUT it caused me to gain 35lbs and as soon as I stopped the injections within 2 months I lost at leat 20lbs. But the best part was that I was able to concieve immediatly when we chose to do so.

I also had the depo and I gained 28 pounds which was an absolute nightmare. I also felt ill and had terrible migraines for the duration of it. Its totally effective, but the body is so pumped with hormones it just doesn't seem right. I was so relieved when I got off it, lost weight and felt better again.

I also administer the injection but I worked too good for me.

After two years of using it, with just weight gain as a negative, I wanted to try for another one. Me and hubby struggled to conceive for 2 years after that.

That is the only negative about the injection, besides the weight gain.

Wow... I was also On Depo for 2 years. I had no weight gain, BUT was very very moody. My husband says those two years were horrible for him (lol). AND... I got pregnant while on it! No birth control is 100% effective, but Depo is 99.9%! And even though I got pregnant on it, I would defiantly go on it again! I cant be the .01% AGAIN!!... can i? hehe

    good luck hun!

well, I heard that you should use a back up method until your second dose of the shot.

My brothers g/f got pregnant because she had unprotected sex 2 weeks after she got hers.

So I would believe that waiting until the second shot theory!!
