How can I check my credit score for free?

Is there even a way? I don't want the websites that make me pay to try risk free for 30 days.

Under the FACT Act amendments to the Fair Credit Reporting Act you are entitled to one free credit file disclosure in a 12 month period. To request this free annual disclosure you may contact the Central Source on-line at www.annualcreditreport.com.

You can also contact the Central Source to request this free annual disclosure by calling toll free (877) FACTACT or by using the mail request form available at the central source website located at www.annualcreditreport.com.

Be aware that there are services that will give you a free credit report if you sign up to try their credit monitoring service for free. After the first month, if you do not cancel, they start charging you for the service.

I am not saying that credit monitoring services are a scam. A great many people benefit from them, but more often than not, the free report ends up costing you money.

You have to pay for your credit score. You can get a free credit report from each credit bureau annually but getting the score costs.

If you want it for free then you need to apply with a mortgage broker. They'll probably incur the cost, and not charge you anything. The bad thing about it is that your scrore will drop 3-4 points which isnt a huge deal.

There is a way. The FCRA entitles consumers to a free credit report from each of the 3 major bureaus per year. You do not have to sign up for anything, don't use those others that want to charge you for it. I put the websites to the 3 major bureaus below and the Federal Trade Commissions website that details your rights as a consumer under the Free Credit Reporting Act. They will give you a lot of information about rights to dispute, to update, and even file a consumer statement to explain something that is yours but there was a good reason. 1 or all maybe available on line. Some credit card company's will give it to you for free if you have there credit card. One is Washington Mutual.
