Why do people confuse mexicans with cubans?

Question

most mexicans i met are dark, there are some light skin mexicans but most are dark. the cubans i've met are light, blond hair/blue eyes.. so why do people confuse them?

the majority of hispanics that live in florida are cubans not mexicans..

People in general call every Hispanic, Mexican. I'm Salvadorian and I get called Mexican all the time. I guess it's just people who don't know the differences. I can generally can tell who's Cuban by the mannerisms and the way of speaking. The only thing in common between Mexicans and Cubans......really is the language.

Hun unfortunately people confuse ALL Hispanics as Mexicans. I go through it everyday sadly.

maybe in south florida its mostly cuban-i live in central florida and here its mostly mexicans, there are so many dif hues of brown they are difficult to tell apart.

You know how Americans are. Haha. I'm Mexican. Sometimes you can tell whethere a person is Mexican or Cuban and sometimes you can't. If you have an accent, it's easy to tell. In the US, some Mexicans have it worse than Cubans, though...

think why that is because they think just because u both speak spanish , maybe that could be it

does it matter? you are all hispanic. you can't really expect for someone to be able to guess the exact country a hispanic is from. i don't even try because it doesn't matter, you are all hispanic. i could understand if you were talking about hispanic people, but you are not and i personally don't know the difference. i have noticed that people from central america look different from other hispanics, but that is it

most people just assume because Mexico is the next country over and all we hear about is the invasion from Mexico on TV and the news. I can usually tell if someone is from Mexico but I couldn't tell the difference from the other countries. If I am in south Fla. I am going to assume the people are Cuban but if in La the assumption will be Mexican. It is not that people want to be rude. It is just that they don't know how to recognize the differences between Spanish speaking cultures.

every cuban i met so far had dark hair and dark skin ive yet to meet a blonde one..i know they exisit i'm just saying thats like saying you don't confuse japanese and chinese people (no offense) i'm not saying its right but COME ON how are we supposed to tell the difference if you correct me i'll remember your race but if you don't ill have no idea

are u assuming that cubans are blue eyed blond people? you are totally wrong and by the way it doesn´t make u a better person AND americans confuse all latin americans with mexicans just because its the only thing that measures up with their brains.
