Can you freeze whole home grown tomatoes?

My co-workers and I are trying to figure out if you can take home-grown tomatoes and freeze them whole so that you can have BLT's like in the winter?

Not a tasty conclusion. Have never seen them in a grocery store freezer section. Canning or drying is the best for flavor. You can give it a go by blanching them in boiling water to remove the skin and preserve flavor - then freeze. They will defrost soft and watery. After blanching you could dice them, toss the liquid and then freeze. Blanch and puree into sauce and then freeze.
Best yet - be generous and share the fresh ones with everyone. Whatever you give away comes back two fold, right...

Yes you can freeze them BUT when defrosted, they are only good for spagetti sauce. Much to watery as they basically turn to mush.

They freeze great, just fill up a plastic bag with them and when you make soup, stew or chili take out a few tomatoes. Set them in a bowl of hot water for a minute. Then peel off the skins and they are ready to cook up in your recipe.

yes, definately I do it all the time, just put them in a freezer bag and seal, great for your pasta sauce, I also freeze the ends of tomatoes and use in casseroles, sause etc.

Call your county extension office for more information, but if you want BLTs, don't freeze them. Consider growing your own indoor plant or plants for the fresh tomatoes.

I don't know if this will work for blt's in late winter but you can blanch, peel the skin off and freez them in ziplock bags and use them in chillie or such.
