Topamax...A miracle weight loss pill?

Has anyone experienced dramatic wieghtloss with the prescription drug topamax. I was prescribed it for migraines, which it has helped tremendously. A side effect that has come along with it is weight loss. I was previously 109 pounds, now a month later, I'm down to 101 pounds. I'm probably going to have to go off of the drug because of this particular side effect. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced it, if so, does it subside or do you keep losing weight on this medicine?

I took this med for one year. I did lose weight - about 10 pounds over the course of a year. No secret why - I was sick the whole time I took it! I vomited a lot the first few months, after a year maybe twice a week. My hands and feet were also numb the whole time. I did not have kidney stones, which apparently a lot of people on it do.
I feel great now that I'm off the med :-). I've also gained back the 10 pounds.

I have also been on Topamax, yes one of the side effects is some weight loss, I did loose a few pounds which is normal when you first start taking this medication, also memory loss. There is a lot of info out there. talk to your Dr. If you loose weight to rapidly.

No, it's not a normal side effect of that medication. Actually, it may INCREASE your appetite. Losing 8 pounds in one month is a lot. Talk to your doctor about that.

I was on Topamax for 2 years just for weight loss. I was also on Weight Watchers and have lost 80lbs. I am off the meds now cause I was forgetting lots of things and I couldn't stand the taste of soda on the meds. But I notice now that My cravings have changes since off the meds and I want to eat eat eat. When sucks cause of me losing my 80lbs. But I have better habits then before so I should haven't have to turn to the meds again.

yes it is a surprise side effect....but it will stop if you eat lots of ice cream.....seriously....i went on a binge and gained every pound back.....if this isn't something you don't want to do....just eat more.....i literally had to force myself to eat after i lost the first 30 lbs. and the weight loss does level off after about 6 months...sadly...i now regret my binge and i've gained weight :-(

My best friend takes this for hers and it makes her drop weight. Another thing I've noticed though, when she's taking it, her thoughts seem jumbled and it takes her a very long time to tell me what she wants to say. Almost a short term memory problem, if that makes any sense. She does drop weight very quickly though, but she gains it back as soon as she's off of it again.
