Whats up with pronouncing the letter Z as Zed?

i used to not know what ppl where talking about when i heard them say zed. i remember watching men in black wondering why they called rip torns character zed when everyone else was called by a letter. now i know that it was the letter z, just pronounced differently. i feel kinda silly now.

It's a Canadian thing. We used to get Canadian channels back in the day before cable, and I can remember watching Mr. Dressup and Canadian Sesame Street and hearing them always say "Zed" instead of "Zee."

Makes sense to me. Doesn't confuse the letter "Z" with "C" when pronounced

According to my College English Professor it the British who came up with Z is for Zed. It was so you didn't confuse Z with C or E. Funny thing is they never came up with a way to distinguish C from E so they just took a page out of the military and used "C as in Charlie" or Charley Company.

That is why people who think they know English actually don't know English. The Zed thing is Brit. The Zee thing is American.
