If you see a lot of movies, you're probably familiar with the green screen before previews that says "This preview has been approved for all audiences". A red band trailer would have a red screen that says "This preview has been approved for RESTRICTED audiences".

A red band trailer is the equivalent of an R rated movie. It means the content is intended for a more mature audience. And red band trailers should NEVER be played on anything but R or NC-17 rated movies.

Generally speaking, a red band trailer might have more violence, harsher language, drug use, and maybe even some mild nudity.
