Why is writing IN CAPITAL LETTERS called "RUDE" ?Even YAHOO IS TELLING THIS !!WHAT IS WRONG WITH?
YAHOO SAYS WRTING IN ALL CAPITALS IS"RUDE" I WANT TO KNOW THE REASON FOR THIS UNDERSTANDING OR RATHER MISUNDERSTANDING.ACCORDING TO ME IT IS REALLY A BOLD STYLE STATEMENT. AND YES IT EASIER TO KEY IN FOR A BUSY PERSON. SOMEONE PLEASE ELUCIDATE. BCAZ I DO NOT AGREE TO THIS "RUDE" UNDERSTANDING JUST BCAZ ONE WRITES IN CAPITAL LETTERS. ACTUALLY AND EFFECTIVELY WRITING IN NON-CAPITALS SUGGEST MEEKNESS AND SUBMISSIVE-NESS WHICH NOT THE ORDER OF THESE DAYS WHERE WE NEED TO EAT CHILLY AND S..T IT WITH EASE.ELSE WE CANNOT DELIVER1 WE HAVE TO DRIVE OUR LIVES TO FULLNESS ( CAPITAL MOVEMENT)

Some people take offence as when typing with capitals it is as though you are shouting. You can use capitals on some words when you want to emphasise them for e.g "I would LOVE to go on vacation, I could really do with the break.."
Hope this helps

- ANSWER IS OK ! BUT I AM NOT CONVINCED ! CAPITAL LETTERS ARE EASILY READABLE AND CLEAR ! ULTIMATELY THATIS WHAT MATTERS! FOR EXAMPLE IF A PHONE IS 'NOT' HEARD CLEARLY ( READ small ) is it good? BUT IF LOUD AND CLEAR, IT IS GOOD FOR ALL ! SO IS IT WITH CAPITAL LETTERS ! THIS IS MY CONSIDERED JUDGEMEN

Actually, for those people who have spent a lot of time communicating by typing to other people on some type of on-line medium, typing in all caps is considered "shouting" and shouting everything you say to someone, will eventually make you come across as a bit rude.
I don't think a lot of people are aware of that though.

Because, in "computer terms," it is considered as YELLING AT A PERSON!! You are "seen" as being upset, angry, p-o'ed, etc. when you write in all caps. That's why it is considered rude and is frowned upon online.
And no, writing in small letters is not meek or submissive. You can write a statement that comes across as knowledgeable and worthy of reading. Writing in all caps is more of a deterrent because people would not want to read somebody's angry comments. It also helps if the person writes succinctly, with proper capitalization and punctuation, in order to get his/her point across.
Do what Yahoo! requests and use small letters. Otherwise, you may be blackballed from their list serv.

i didn't know that i was rude to type in caps. i have always thought it was just a way of getting someone's attention or stating something obvious or yelling or even being mad. it kinda jumps out at ppl when everything is in cap. but other than that its not rude

In the on-line world where it is difficult to "hear" tone of voice, typing in all capital letters has evolved into meaning that a person is yelling. It is appropriate to type in caps if you are upset about something or if you are trying to draw attention to a specific word or sentence.
In some places online one person will be leading or organizing a group in a chat room and they use caps to differentiate their instructions from the general chatting of the group. If that person begins to chat rather than direct, they should type without caps lock on.
Also, we are accustomed to reading using a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters. When someone uses a different way of writing like all lowercase, all uppercase, reversing cases, capitalizing the first letter of every word, etc., it makes it more difficult to read quickly and get a full understanding of what a person is trying to say.
As far as your idea of submissiveness goes, I do not believe that typing in appropriate case format is a form of submissiveness. It could be construed as submissive when a person does not capitalize their own name or the word "I", I find that when a person makes a habit of typing using non-standard case format, it makes me think that the person is simply uneducated, ignorant, or careless.

It's hard to read, caps is used to make a word or phase stand out.
-
may be it's hard to read or some thing like that....
yahoo people are some times acts rudely......they are like dictators.....they cuts you off some times.......god knows why .....? they are the ones who sets bad examples for all of us.

In proper writing protocol, such as novels, fiction,or narratives, All capital letters are used for yelling or shouting a statement. Just as an exclaimation point has a different meaning from a period at the end of a sentence, so does the all capital letters. Which one below shows a shout in the voice more.
"John, don't throw the dog down the stairs"!
"JOHN, DON'T THROW THE DOG DOWN THE STAIRS"!
Just as it is rude to shout at people when you talk, it is rude to shout at people when you write to them also, Shouting in itself is a rude act. Thus, shouting in writing is also considered rude. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU TO UNDERSTAND BETTER.

I DONT AGREE THAT WRITING IN CAPITAL LETTERS IS RUDE.... BUT THE THING IS THAT.....if u wanna make a statement or wanna stress on something.... or just wanna sort of yell..... then u can do so by writing in capital letters.... I USUALLY dont write in capital letters cuz if i wanna shout at some1 or make a point.... then i cant use capital letters...so i write in small caps just 2 avoid confusion... but no1 can stop u frm using it if u want... so go ahead n use it

Writing so too ,typing follows certain grammer if (,) comma means a pause writing in capital meant giving emphasis or make a loud noise of it,as yelling or shouting,so it is termed rude to write in capitals, but when receptient understands it as only emphasis, its allowed

you are perfectly correct
writing in capitals is not at all RUDE
its just the ways to key point a particular word so that i can get an idea of wat a person wants to say
4 eg. if i write
1.Im ANGRY and dont wanna talk
(d key word is angry which can describe you feelings)
2. Im HAPPY for wat u did.
the key wrd is HAPPY which denotes happiness nd its NOT at all rude

I think because it kind of hits one on the face when you read in all caps, smaller cases are more fluid.

I FEEL WRITING IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED AS RUDE. IT IS RATHER HELP FULL FOR AGED/SENIOR CITIZENS TO QUICKLY READ THE MATTER. THE WRITER ALSO WRITES THE MESSAGE EASILY AS HE HAS NOT TO BOTHER ABOUT CAPITAL AND NON CAPITAL WORDS. IT REPRESENTS BOLD AND DECENT EXPRESSION OF ONE'S FEELING IN A SHORTER TIME.
-
it is really just a chat room invention, if you type in capitals you are deemed to be shouting and other chatters, will take it you are shouting, its just like sending out messages in the room with smilies,
you must be new to chatting so you did not know this. chatting has its own inventions and a new dictionary of shortened words like lol means laugh out loud, and brb is be right back, hopes this helps

In internet, bulletin board and chatroom contexts, writing in caps is considered the equivalent of verbally yelling. To the extent it's considered rude to go around yelling at people, it's similarly considered rude to "type caps" at people.

I don't feel that writting in capital rude. In fact I have been writting every thing in capital letter since 1985. On the contrary,it helps the people to read easily and you spell the words correctly,as your words and alphabets are clearly seen.

Typing in CAPITAL LETTERS means he/she is not happy with the other. It's like shouting at the other. If the content is with BOLD font then it makes it even worse.

hai!! well...wen u communicate in writing then its not easy 2 express wat u feel..hence d use of smileys emoticons etc... using caps means u stress smethng... not necessary it means smethng rude.. thnk nly wat u say matters wen in writing rather than how u say.. but things can easily be misunderstood in such cases... u may really not mean it 2 be rude but just want 2 make a point but in the other persons perspective it may sound rude...it all depends... just my opinion.. hpe it helps!!

When one yells at another it is loud (obviously), this is characterised easily by typing in all caps. If someone randomly walked up on you and started yelling, you would feel frustration and irritation. Therefore when caps are used in typing it is the equivalent to yelling.

Writing in all capital letters is rude because it is considered "shouting" in the computer world. You don't have to write in all small letters, but try writing with proper grammar and punctuation.
If you are not convinced that Kelly's answer is not the best dont give her the best answer. I dont know the answer to your question but just way you responded sounded rude to me.
