Can someone hack into my web cam???

Somebody told me today that they turn their web cam around to face the opposite way so that "hackers" couldn't "see" them...they have their computer set up in their bedroom and its facing their bed, so I imagine why they are concerned. It never occured to me that it might be possible....So now I think about what I've done in front of my web cam with my husband who is in the military over seas.....since he is government....can they "hack" our web cam and see what we see on each others screens???

Yes... but it is not likely. I mean, it is a very simple matter for someone like myself to compromise a machine and view a webcam... but why bother? If I want to see someone nekkid... I'll go to a porn site, at least I know what I'm getting into there. For all I know, you're a 400 pound Mexican transvestite. (No offense...)

It would take a lot for a hacker to see you on webcam. First of all, your webcam would have to be on. I have a webcam with a tiny light on it that turns red when it's recording and green when it's idle, so I know when it's on. They'd probably need a special program to do it, one for your specific camera. And finally, your Internet connection would slow down because the camera would have to send so many pictures in a stream to the hacker. It's unlikely that someone would hack into your computer to watch you on webcam. But if you're paranoid, turn it off when you're not using it, get a firewall for your computer, and don't download any strange files ;)

I want to punch You armywife.

I'm sure it's possible to....but I think hacking into a webcam is the last thing on a script kiddies mind. If they can hack, I'll be damned if they can't find themselves some good ol fashion sloth-on-midget porn.

The solution is simple. Turn off the computer when you are not using it. Or only plug in the cam when you actually want to use it.

    Then you can relax.
